    ERIKSSON WON'T GAMBLE ON CAMPBELL

Sven-Goran Eriksson insists he cannot afford to take a gamble on Sol Campbell at the World Cup.

The England coach wants a fully-fit Campbell on the plane for Germany in the summer but he admits he cannot take any risks with the Arsenal defender, who has not played since he walked out of a Premiership match at half-time more than three weeks ago.

"I talked to Sol and we discussed the World Cup. He wants to be there and I'm happy about that because a fit Sol Campbell is always very good to have on your side," he said. "The first thing is that he must start to play for Arsenal, otherwise I can't pick him."

He added: "He is a rock when he's physically fit and I think he'll do everything to be available for the World Cup. It might be his last World Cup as well as mine.

"You can't gamble. You have to be quite sure they are fit. Otherwise you might end up with a big problem."

    Wenger Stands By Bentley Decision

Arsene Wenger maintains he has no regrets about allowing David Bentley to leave Arsenal.

The England Under-21 forward made a permanent move to Blackburn in January after a loan spell at Ewood Park, having spent last season with relegation battlers Norwich but was then unable to force his way into Wenger's first-team plans after returning in the summer.

"At some stage you have to let people make their own career," Wenger said. "If they do not get their way in your team you have to be big enough to say: 'Listen, go somewhere else and play' - and if he has even more hunger against Arsenal that is something you have to take."

He added: "That is completely normal because David Bentley is an Arsenal man and he wanted to do it here. He will maybe do it in two, three or four years. If he does, I take that well.

"He will certainly be fired up from what I understand."

The Arsenal boss has, though, always been impressed by the youngster, who found himself competing with the likes of Robin van Persie and Jose Antonio Reyes for a place in the Highbury first team.

"I like David Bentley because he has personality, a determined attitude, belief in his ability and he is technically fantastic," said Wenger. "He is a little bit of a Beckham-type player."

Lehmann Set To Sign New Deal

Germany international goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has been offered a new one-year contract and is keen to stay at Arsenal.

The 36-year-old told The Sun: "My contract ends this summer and I have been offered a new one.

"I love it here and it would be good to stay - not just for me and my wife - but for my sons too as their education is going well. They have both said they would like to remain in England for another year or so."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen for Lehmann to stay.

"We are close to agreement about another year's contract. It has been his best year for us, even better than the season we went unbeaten," said Wenger.

          Lehmann 'optimistic' On Arsenal Deal

Jens Lehmann has reiterated his desire to remain at Arsenal but he does not believe he will be joined in the Barclays Premiership by Germany team-mate Michael Ballack.

Lehmann is out of contract at the end of the season and has reportedly been offered a one-year extension by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

The former Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper told PA Sport: "I have spoken to Wenger about my contract renewal. I am optimistic we can reach an agreement considering what I have done in recent seasons and this year."

He added: "But we still haven't reached a solution because it depends on how long the agreement will be for.

"I would like to stay but I do realise that I am 36 years old and if I ask for a four-year contract I might only get two."

Lehmann has been in impressive form for Arsenal this season despite the club going through a transitional period.

The German added: "I am particularly satisfied with my campaign so far, with the way I am playing, but not with the results the team have achieved. We are not getting the results we expected."

Germany captain Ballack has been linked with a move to the Premiership, with suggestions the the Bayern Munich midfielder had agreed terms on a four-year Bosman deal with Chelsea.

Lehmann said: "I haven't spoken to Michael about the Premier League but I think it is highly unlikely that his destination will be Chelsea because they have (Frank) Lampard in the same position. I really don't think they will be interested."

He's the most complete midfielder I think in the world right now. With that said I think the more powerful offensive players like Ronaldinho and Henry will always get more money as they attract more attention.
