technically this isnt true and most people especially younger people dont know this. In 1988 seoul games, I remember that Iran won a bronze medal in a martial arts sport (taekwondo or judo, ) but that sport wasnt an official olympic sport yet so whoever won medal that year in that sport, didnt contribute to their country's medal standings. Nonetheless they WON an olympic medal.

EDIT: I just googled and found it. It was taekwando which was a "demonstration" sport at the time. The name of the athlete was Faisal Danesh.

Are there any "unofficial" sports this year in Beijing? Because IRNA is reporting that a few of our Wushu fighters are heading to Beijing to take part in the olympics.

off topic: I think for weightlifting they should give separate medals one for "Snatch" and one for "Clean & Jerk"...this way ppl like rezazadeh could have gotten 2 gold medals....just like swimming, where you have 50m, 100m, 200m etc....
