If you are simply saying that in that game, Messi performed better for his side than Ronaldo did for his side then yes...but did he OWN him ?? No. Barcelona's defence controlled Ronaldo, and United's defence controlled Messi in that game.

Well Italy had Cannavaro and Buffon to thank for in the World Cup for having a solid defence - plus Materazzi for getting Zidane sent off.

Madrid had Raul and Van Nistlerooy (34 goals combined) in the league this past season to thank.

But yes no one really stood up as an individual in these two examples, and credit to both teams for their awesome team work But I dont think such can be repeated that easily, as team work only lets you come this far with the need of that little boost to cross the finish line each and every time.

Its all about consistency in winning .
