they dont organize the defence and sometimes the midfield? they dont save the ball when the defence fk up?
the goalkeeper commands the whole team, because they hav a the perfect view of the game.

the goalkeeper is the most important position, a good goalkeeper can be a difference between a win and a lose. u saw that in italy vs spain in euro.

a good goalkeeper can be more vital to a team than a midfielder or even a striker. (greece in euro 04).

he had a clean sheet for 558 minutes in the league last season
one of his saves in WC2002 is in the 10 saves of WC history
he won the best goalkeeper award last season (the zamora award)

but casillas won the best goalkeeper of euro award
plus many of those awards are impossible to be achieved by a goalkeeper and the uefa foward of the year and footballer of the year are %90 given to players that play in CL final. so u cant compare that either and i dont see any awards for his performance with portugal
any this is point less because its hard to compare the achievments of a goalkeeper to a foward

I think Ronaldo's chance is very much higher than Messi.
If you see the previous years you will see those who were a part of successful team mostly won the award against the other while sometime they didnt deserve it.
