crybaby strikes again: mommy... its MINE!!

      Ronaldo: I Deserve Golden Ball

Never exactly lacking in self-belief, Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo is confident he will win the Ballon d'Or - because he thinks he deserves it, and that the likes of Lionel Messi and Xavi are not serious rivals.

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo is a front-runner to become the European Footballer of the Year - and in his opionion, he thoroughly deserves it.

Ronaldo told La Gazzette: "I don't see any rival [for the Ballon d'Or] and I feel pretty much relaxed [ahead of the vote]."

He also believes he deserves the 2008 Fifa World Player of the Year award.

Ronaldo was in scintillating form last season, when he scored 42 goals in all competitions for United as they collected both the Premier League and Champions League crowns.

Of course, his success reflected the contribution of his team-mates, but Ronaldo is not one for false modesty. He is claiming that he should claim the individual accolades.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Sincerely, yes, I'm confident.

"If you assess what I did over the course of the season, I think I did more than everyone. What else should I have done to win the Ballon d'Or and the Fifa award?"

He is actually on a 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, previously known as the European Footballer of the Year award, togeher with United team-mate Wayne Rooney and Liverpool's Spain striker Fernando Torres.

Ronaldo also revealed that he played through 'torture' towards the end of the season, and at Euro 2008, before submitting o the inevitable and undergoing ankle surgery.

However, he reckons he would also delay future operations if it meant he could appear in crucial matches.

He said: "At times it was like having a knife in my ankle.

"I gritted my teeth. I don't regret it. It was worth it. It was torture, also psychologically."

Now fully fit, he is targeting back-to-back Champions League titles after last season's win in Moscow.

"I want a second Champions League, Manchester United have everything to focus on this. But I am wary of Inter and Juventus."

you idiot. xavi was the best player of a tournament you were invisible in. you know, that little tournament called euro 08. sure he didnt score 42 goals on fulham but does that really matter when he was the 2nd savior of barcelona all season? how about messi who was the savior of barcelona. its not their fault they played for a crappy club. you cant even make a slight difference against albania and you think you deserve the award?

not good of ronaldo to say..hes probably got the best chance to win it so he should be patient and not say anything stupid to jeopardize his chances..his skill makes him a great asset for club football..his lack of sincerity and leadership make him a dull international player

Barcelona star Lionel Messi reveals he would give anything for the Ballon d'Or and he believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well as Kaka are also in the running for the award...

The Argentina hit-man has been outstanding for Barcelona and he is favourite to win the Golden Ball alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi has spoken of all things Calcio and he believes Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi has a great future ahead of him. The striker also reveals his sadness that Ronaldinho is not included in the list of nominees.

"I don't know what I would give for the Ballon d'Or as I would be the first Argentine to win it. [Alfredo] Di Stefano won it as a Spaniard and [Omar] Sivori did it as an Italian," Messi told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"I am really sorry that Ronaldinho is not in the running for the award. I speak with him all the time and we text each other(how cute). He is happy at Milan and he is always getting better.

"Ronnie is a phenomenon even as a person. When Italians get to know him well you will say I was right.

"Who would I give the award to? I would give it to Aguero, but I think Torres and Xavi deserve it too.

"Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney, Ibrahimovic and Kaka are all in the running. The only one missing is Iniesta and I don't understand why as he is great.

"Ibrahimovic? He is great. He scores incredible goals and he has improved so much since he has played for Inter as well as the arrival of Jose Mourinho. You can tell he is having fun.

"Rossi? I saw him against Atletico. He is a great goalscorer and he has a massive future ahead of him."

Messi then had a few words on Argentina and the decision to give Diego Maradona the coaches' job.

"I know Diego appreciates me and I have no trouble with what he said about me in the past," added Messi.

"There will be no problems with him on the bench. He is a great man and I admire him for what he gave Argentinian football."

Messi would win if he hadn't been injured last season, and if Barcelona actually won a trophy.

Torres scored a lot with liverpool and helped Spain win the Euro so... mabybe him?

Casillas deserves it more than anyone else.

I dont think Torres will get it. He has only scored 2 goals for the Spain this whole year, Villa has scored 11 and is in a better position in regards to scoring.
