Sounders FC signs Ljungberg
SEATTLE -- Former Swedish national team captain Fredrik Ljungberg (LUNE-berg) has signed with the Seattle Sounders FC. He's the fourth player signed by the expansion Major League Soccer team.
Ljungberg was introduced during a news conference Tuesday at the team's home stadium, Qwest Field. He is the Sounders' designated player, a rule designed to allow MLS teams to sign one international player with only a small portion of their salary counting against the salary cap.
The midfielder previously played for Arsenal and West Ham United in the English Premier League. He's a two-time player of the year in Sweden and has played in two World Cups.
