Darvish makes Japan baseball squad

Pitcher Yu Darvish, who has an Iranian father and a Japanese mother, is considered one of Japanese baseball hopes.
22-year-old pitcher Yu Darvish has been named for Japans' 2009 World Baseball Classic squad with Ichiro Suzuki and Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Japan on Monday chose its squad to defend its World Baseball Classic (WBC) title in the 2009 tournament which begins on March 5 in Tokyo. The Asian country became the first WBC champion in 2006.
Among the 34-strong preliminary roster, there are seven US major league players including Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Key domestic league players are Iranian-Japanese Nippon Ham Fighters ace pitcher Yu Darvish, and Giants slugger and first baseman Michihiro Ogasawara, AFP reported.
The 6'5" (196cm) Darvish is considered one of Japanese baseball's rising stars.
