Iranians win tennis title in Kenya
Iran has won Men's doubles title at the international Junior Tennis Tournament which was held in Kenya's capital city, Nairobi.
The Iranian pair Arasalan Mohammadi and Kiarash Souri won the championship after defeating their Egyptian rivals 2-1 in the final on Thursday night.
The Iranian duo advanced to the final stage when they won a 2-0 decisive victory over the Kenyan pair on Thursday morning.
A total of 48 players from 12 countries are taking part in the U-18 event in Nairobi, Kenya.
Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan performed a miracle on Friday in the World Junior Table Tennis Championship by beating world junior number one Kenta Matsudaira of Japan.
The world junior number 46, who is participating in the prestigious event without a coach, defeated Matsudaira 4-2 in Madrid’s Francisco Fernandez Ochoa venue.
Alamiyan, who has booked a berth in the quarter-final round, said, “The level of table tennis in Iran used to be much lower than other Asian countries’, but now it’s getting better. This match proved that an Iranian can win such matches.”
After this performance, nobody will underestimate Iranian players in the future.
Iran was crowned the 1st Men’s Indoor Hockey Asia Cup champions on Sunday.
The Asian heavyweight earned a narrow 3-2 victory against Malaysia A in the final game at the Indera Mulia Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia.
“Iran proved that they are the favorites. They were better in every department and made good use of their opportunities,” said Malaysia A coach Stephen Van Huizen.
Iran had already defeated Thailand, Uzbekistan, Singapore and Malaysia B in the tournament.
