ok, fair arguements, most of them. I'm going to go thru every one of them and (try to) justify what i said.

when i say no arguemtns, thats what i think. No one will ever convince me that there is anyone better than pele and maradona. Thats what i think and do what if it's subjective, what can ya do?!

You say that of the Pele/Maradona situation, but i could equally say that youu're just discounting Best's acclaim because you're from Sheffield!
the fact that i live in sheffield has absolutely nothign to do wth my oppinion of george best. I dont deny he's one of the best (i beleive he's 3rd best if you want a rank). If you want to have a propar discussion please respectfully refrain from this :bs:

At least Best's problems were off the field... Maradona took performance enhancing drugs and will always be remembered by the English for "the hand of God"... always!
Which drugs did diego take that enhanced his footballing skills? cocaine doesnt do that to my knowledge but if there is another one that he used that is performance enhancing then i will stand corrected (not that i brought it up in teh first place!!! lol)

And the english are bitter because maradona scored twice against them. They're bitter of course they're gonna remember him for that but no a single one of them denies that he is one of the best footballers of all time if not the best.

Best didn't exactly choose a life of alcoholism, it's an illness that many suffer from and try to battle against, just like he did. Tony Adams, Paul Merson, etc. sadly he was too far into his addiction before help was on its way!
As for that alcoholism quip - its an illness but i think its safe to say he brought it upon himself. Wasting hospital hours, money and doctors' time is unforgivable. Alcholics deserve no pitty, they didnt have to become alchos did they

And as for that "good riddance" comment, shame on you for saying that about a fellowing human being... disgusting!
And the last comment of good riddance. They way i justify that statement of mine is that he used 3 livers. There are thousands of people on teh waiting list for a liver in Britain. Thousands. Most of them won't survive because theres such a shortage. Now Best got 3 and after each one chose to carry on drinking. My point is he could be classed as a murderer for not looking after the first liver that was given to him when there were so many needing a liver, and of whom would look after it and live. Tony adams and paul merson like you mentioned were different. They were given help and used it

even better, adams wrote a book to tell the youngsters to not drink or take drugs. He realised his mistakes and tried to do somethign about it, Full credit goes to him. What did Best do? All we heard of him over the last few years is when he gets pissed at a party and needs new liver....over and over. he's in dept....so what? STOP DRINKING YOU IDIOT.

A "propar" disscussion long went out of the window when you rubbished Pele's comments about Best by claiming that "Pele just said that to piss off Maradonna". That's as much of a load of BS as what I said... the only difference is I don't actually believe what I wrote, where as you do!

If memory serves, he was thrown out of the 1990 WC (after Argentina beat Greece 4-0) having tested positive for ephedrine... which, believe it or not, is a PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUG!!!

It would be ignorant to deny Maradonna's ONE OF the best footballers of all time, but all I have a problem with is the fact that you believe he is the best without taking into account his character and onfield demeanour. I'm sure that many would agree that, in order to be the greatest player of all time, you can't be a cheat... otherwise it would bring the game into disrepute.

That's a comment from a muslim if I've ever heard one! Your lack of knowledge of alcoholism and religious bias towards it doesn't really qualify you to have an opinion.

I don't know where you've got 3 livers from... did you pull that number out of your @$$? He had 1 liver transpant... his first liver was his own, or did he not deserve that because he was an alcoholic?

Yes, of course there was an outcry about his liver transplant given his alcoholism but he isn't the only alcoholic to have a liver transplant. It's open to moral debate as to whether an alcoholic deserves a liver transplant! Best was a drinker before Merson or Adams ever kicked a football. He was far deeper into his addiction than they were theirs when help was available!

To sum up, I'd advise you to watch some videos of George Best playing! Look at the skills, runs, assits he performs on some of the worst pitches ever! The ball bobbles every which way, yet he still controls it so elegantly! Try to imagine him on the quality of pitches that Maradonna played on...

And I only hope that there is nobody else in the world who holds the same mentality as you do in the response to death!
