Iran was voted third best national squad in Asia Iran has been voted the third best Asian team by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in the World Football Team Awards.
The worldwide membership of AIPS voted for the best national and club football teams from all six FIFA geographical regions on Saturday.
In Asia, Australia was voted the best national team while Japan and Iran took second and third position.
Iran's Persepolis was also ranked the third best Asian football club after Japan's Urawa Reds and Uzbekistan's Bunyodkor.
In Europe, Spain was voted the best national team with more than 82 percent of votes, while Russia took second place and Germany ranked third.
England had two winners in the best European football club category with Manchester United in first place and Chelsea in third. Russia's Zenit St. Petersburg surpassed many big names to take the second spot.
Argentina defeated its archrival Brazil in both the national and club categories in South America. 59 percent of voters named Argentina the best team, while Brazil and Paraguay ranked second and third.
Argentina's Boca Juniors was also voted the best South American football club, followed by Ecuador's Liga Deportivo Universitaria and Brazil's Fluminense. Egypt, New Zealand and Mexico took the top places in Africa, Oceania and Central, Caribbean and North America respectively. Egypt's Al Ahly, New Zealand's Waitakere United and Mexico's Pachuca were voted the best clubs in the same regions.
