Beckham hopeful of stay in Milan despite deadline

MILAN (AP) - David Beckham has reiterated his desire to remain with AC Milan, while reports suggested that Major League Soccer's Friday deadline for a deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy could be pushed back to next week.

MLS commissioner Don Garber said Wednesday that all negotiations must be completed by Friday, but The Times of London said the two clubs were set to hold talks next week.

"Milan and Galaxy are negotiating and I hope to stay in Italy. Physically I feel great," Beckham was quoted as saying in Friday's Gazzetta dello Sport. "I love playing for Milan. I've expressed my desire to remain in Milan and now I have to wait."

Beckham has won over the skeptics who thought his loan to AC Milan was nothing more than a marketing exercise and is now set to play a key role in Sunday's game against Inter Milan.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player has started every match, scored twice and been included on AC Milan's roster for the UEFA Cup.

"For the moment it couldn't be going better. I have nothing against Galaxy - Los Angeles has been a wonderful experience - but at Milan I have found great players who have really helped me," Beckham said. "In the last month and a half my condition has improved 100 percent. I've worked hard, which I like."

On Wednesday, Beckham equaled Bobby Moore's total of 108 England appearances by an outfield player in a 2-0 loss to Spain in an exhibition. However, he downplayed the possibility of beating goalie Peter Shilton's England record of 125 appearances.

"I take it one match at a time, something I do with Milan and the national team," Beckham said. "Being part of the national team is important. England are developing and if I can be part of the group it will be a great result."

they should let him stay till the end of the year..and decide from then..

but even a 38 year old beckham would do good in the MLS lol

it was a wrong move by galaxy to even bring him

then again it was his own fault too...he should've came here when he was retiring...if he still wanted to play competitively in europe, he should've never came....so in a way its f-cked up from his part to get people in US hyped up then go back after a short time. Not only Galaxy but MLS spent all this money in order to advertise their league and it all went to waste.

If Becks had retired from the England team then it would have been understandable to play in MLS, but if thought that playing in such a mediocre league for such a mediocre team as Galaxy would allow him to be consistently called up for the national team, he was truly mistaken.

Personally, I blame his boney piss-face wife for making his football career get into decline as soon as he left United. Most of his time in Madrid was lousy given how the whole team was in shambles, then his move to LA, but he did the right thing in coming to Milan.
