MOSCOW, Feb. 28 (MNA) -- Iranian chess grandmaster Ehsan Ghaem-Maghami finished 12th in the International Chess Festival Aeroflot Open 2009 held in Moscow.
Ghaem-Maghami, who recently beat the former world champion Anatoly Karpov in three classic, rapid and blitz events in Tehran, gained 12.5 points in the tournament.
The tournament finished with the victory of 18-year-old Sergey Karjakin. The Ukrainian grandmaster scored 15/18.
As part of the Aeroflot Open Chess Festival another big event was held in Moscow. 165 players took part in the Qualification Tournament for the World Blitz Championship, among them over a hundred grandmasters.
