ireland is waaaaay better than bolivia and ecuador
italy also rotated their squad, so it wasnt a full squad at all, they already qualified almost..look at how far ahead they are from 3rd place, from here on its all practice for them
the pressure caused the red card so its no excuse. they started with 11 didnt they? and no, ireland is not as good as ecuador.

This high altitude crap is well... crap.

It's not like Magically all of the sudden these countries went on a high altitude... These teams were regularly beaten or at least tied with for decades.

Don't blame Maradona's inability to be a decent coach on nature.

screw Ali Daei, screw Maradona, screw Van Basten

screw all players who succeed in their playing careers and when they retire, they want to become coaches and fail...

argentina's biggest defeats in history have been by a 5 goal margin, this has happened four times now (after bolivia)..first since 1993

how has van basten been bad? undefeated in the wc qualifiers, and holland played the closest thing to "perfect football" i've ever seen in the euro groupstages

I loved how Holland destroyed in the group stages, but all but one goal was off counter attack. Van Basten was outcoached by Hiddink. He did not face one decent coach in the group stages.

not sure about the coaches, but he did face decent teams. it was the "group of death", romania, italy, france and holland

I guess one can be even of worse than us when putting a legendary player as coach .
Dunga and Brazil isn't going to well
vBasten and Holland didn't go smoothly aswell
Maradonna and Argentina, well...But he still has time to recover
Klinsmann and Germany didn't go well at first, but I guess he was lucky that the WC was in Germany and some kind of magic happened there in the teams chemistry.

So putting a (legendary) player at the helm of TM, without them having any kind of international coaching expirince isn't a wise thing.
I think all the federations have learned that by now.

Luck was really a big factor in those victories. Holland could have easilly drawn or even lost those games against Italy and specially France. However they did play a good counter attacking game and almost all of there attacks went to be a goal.

In the WC qualifiers he had a easier group than Iran had, and still he didn't impress with good football or tactics.

you don't beat the world champions 3-0 and the world cup finalists 4-1 by "luck". van basten was tactically supperior in both games

easier group? scotland are underrated, they would beat any team in iran's wcq group. norway beat germany 1-0 a month ago. finland shouldn't be underrated either. i agree that the group is one of the easiest in the wcq, but staying undefeated in it (no draws either) is still very impressive
