i must be mistaking the PFA POTY award with the Young player of the year and other awards.

omg even fabregas who has been out the most season has been better than him and the other players are better than him and in that list gerrard should've won or how about VDS with all that clean sheet keeping united in the run.
the one and only winner should have been lampard, he has been amazing.
silly PFA...

Giggs' importance for United this season, esp. in goal creating situations, has been valuable despite his age. He has consistently performed well and quite frankly finally deserved such an award when he was pipped away by foreigners and strikers over the last 18-19 years of his career.
Quite frankly, I didnt expect Giggs to win this award, so I am surprised he did...and also given the fact he got the most votes means he won it fairlysigpic

I get he's a United legend. He's a respectable player, but do you honestly think he's been better than Gerrard or Lampard? I think even Van Persie has been better and more important to his team this season.

I didnt expect him to win the award as I said, and I surprised it is in fact his first PFA POTY award.Originally posted by nimster22 View PostHis age is irrelevant, isn't it? And the rest of your argument sounds like the people claiming Peter O'Toole should win the best actor over Forest Whitaker's amazing performance in The Last King of Scotland... it doesn't matter if he's been robbed of it before or whatever, if he's not the POTY, he's not the POTY.

overall ? lampard and gerrard have a LONG road to be even close to what Giggs is worth and has donesigpic

Weird innit ?
That said, my personal choice was Nemanja Vidic - barring that one shocker against Liverpool - for being a rock in defence, esp. when sometimes most of the defence was injured.sigpic

He was once an amazing player, no doubt, but sentimentality should have no such place in the selection. In my opinion it should have been Gerrard or Vidic. Both where miles more important to their teams than giggs ever was this season. The obscure we see eventually. The completely obvious, it seems, takes longer. ~Edward R. Murrow

I agree with the NO in the telegraph on whether he deserved it:

A good case could have been made for Giggs winning the award in any of his previous 18 seasons, particularly 1999. Finally ending his wait in what has probably been his worst campaign may seem a mark of respect, but all it achieves is to highlight that Giggs is a fading force, like French and Saunders, given honours for who they are, not what they've done, not for what they are but what they once were.
