Its all about opportunity, Iran is developing in basketball while in soccer the rest of the world is catching up..plus the competitiveness between international soccer and basketball is great...USA, Greece, Spain and Argentina would almost certainly never lose to a team ranked 10th and below in basketball, while in soccer any team (as long as they are somewhat competitive) can beat a world power..

that being said you guys really should be happy Iran at least has diversity in sports, great at weightlifting and volleyball, competitive in basketball and soccer...

In football stadiums and training facilities are considerably more expensive than in basketball and volleyball. In fact, volleyball and basketball are often played in the same arenas.

Also, because they are less popular than football, I think they have less expectation put upon them to succeed.

Basketball is a great example of a sport where we have put in investment and reaped the rewards. All we did was bring imports into our league, and this improved our domestic players greatly. Our basketball team still has a long was to go by world standards, and although we showed momence of brilliance, we were simply outclassed by other teams. Our best performance was vs. Argentina, and we showed them that we can compete to some extent. Even in Asia, Iran bball struggles certainly versus China and Lebanon are a good team.

In volleyball, at senior level we are actually quite poor and have a poor history in regional competitions. Over the last few years the youth teams have become WORLD champions, and this has meant that senior coaches have decided to put these players in the proper team, that is why the current NT player age is so low. In football, this is not the case and rarely do we see players like Hajsafi playing for the NT from a very young age - we need to redevelop our players. The players born in '81 or '82 like Mobali, Kazemian, Zare etc are getting old and we need a new generation of players.

I think what has happened is that football is simply too popular, there are too many people involved in the organisation of football and too many opinions. Like everything else in Iran, the supply simply cannot meet the expectations of the people.

Because football is much more important in the wolrd and so if we have success at football it makes the people more happy and go on the streets to dance ...etc.

Lets say we win the wolrd cup in Basketball or whatever.
Do you think people will go on the streets??
Now imagine we win that in football!!
