During today's broadcast of Summer League, Lionel Hollins came on the broadcast and was asked about his thoughts on Hamed Haddadi.
he was asked something in the lines of "what's your thoughts on Haddadi and him being the first Iranian in the NBA is a big step, but what's your take on him?"
these are the points the coach said about Hamed:
- you wouldn't expect him to come from Iran but with basketball expanding across Europe and China, you would expect an ARAB player coming to the NBA (shows his knowledge outside of basketball
)
- he has great size, great ability to rebound and has improved a lot from last season.
- worked out all summer, mostly in memphis.
- helped us win a stretch of games last season
afterwards one of the commentators said "I remember him playing for a stretch in the 2nd quarter of a game and he had 7 points and 7 rebounds!"
the coach responded:
- he does have potential but in the NBA, we are looking at consistency so he needs to gain that. a coach wont play a player on a day-to-day basis if he doesnt play at a consistent rate.
these were all paraphrased from what he said. but it seems like hamed really doesnt have much of an opportunity especially with the depth the grizz have gained.
the commentator made a comment about haddadi and how he caught a real tough pass with his hand and brought it down and saying "with soft hands like that, you can work with him and shows he has potential. I've talked to him and he is a good kid and loves living in America"
