oh man you are giving me goosebumps!! That was the year I came to the US and I couldn't watch the game so I called my buddies back in Iran and asked for the score and when I heard Koeman scored the goal, my first reply was, was it a free kick?? I finally saw the goal when I went back to Iran in 95 and watched the tape.
Hands down the best free kick shooter I have ever seen. Unlike other great free kick shooters he hardly ever bent them. The goalies knew EXACTLY where he was going to place them and STILL they couldn't stop them!! SO so powerful.

He is also the best penalty kick taker I have seen. But it was done quite the opposite. His penalties were never powerful or fast but He always managed to shoot it the opposite direction of where the goalies dove.

well honestly I didnt like him cuz he played for holland and the german fan that I was you just couldn't like a dutch player because of the rivalry. First they beat Germany in the 89th minute with a great Van basten goal in the semis of 88 eurocup then in the WC 90 qualifier while germany had the lead they tied the game by another great van basten goal. Germany almost missed out of the WC (that they eventually won) becasue of the dutch which is why the 2-1 win in the second round was so so so sweet. I still have that game in "betamax" taped from Iran TV.

But you just resepected gthe guy cuz he was so good. If you think about it all 4 of those great dutch players scored in the champions league finals in games where nobody else scored which brings up the Q why did holland choked so badly in the WC? Van basten and gulit scored 2 each when AC Milan won 4-0 (the first time) then the next year Rijkaard scored the winner for AC Milan and the last one by Koeman. Such star studded team

Ronald Koeman knocked England out of USA'94 qualification too

He should have been sent off for a professional foul on David Platt just inside the box (penalty not awarded, freekick given instead, and Koeman yellow carded) and a few minutes, Koeman scored from a free kick to make it 1-0 and a few minutes later Bergkampp won the game 2-0 and England went out

I rememeber that game like it was yesterday. 2 of my buddies came over and we watched it on Telemundo. I believe that was in mid 1993. I think it was the first time I saw bergkamp and as a gunner I gotta say he didn't disappoint! well except for his freakin phobia. Think about it. If Holland had lost then bergkamp wouldnt have had the phobia so I guess the english arsenal fans lost x2!

speaking of platt whom I can only think of as an aston villa player even though he was a gunner for a while, he had 2 of the most beautiful goals I have ever seen in the WC. One was the one he scored in minute 120 against Belguim and the other one his header against Italy. Whenever I think of a "classic" header, I think of his header against Italy in the semis. That was pretty nice.

David Platt was a product of Manchester United's youth academy, but he left United just before he turned professional despite having a good offer from United

Maybe its becasue back then Man U wasn't the team it is now. You and I have talked about this before when we talked about the 1989 premier league and how Arsenal stole it in the injury time against Liverpool. Man U really started to become the team they are now (and they were back in the day) when they stole Cantona from Leeds
