My comments on this "veto":
1. Before I get started, I'd like to clearly express to everyone that this move is an absolute joke that has destroyed the integrity of the league at the moment. I am in two other hardcore 14 team leagues, and the overwhelming response in both leagues when asked about whether this trade was vetoable or not was "not even close."
2. Persianbruin and everyone else: You don't veto a trade because you are afraid of me having the #2 and #4 player. You veto the trade because you feel that it is inherently unfair to one side. That's a very clear point that you should understand before I go on.
3. There are two standards we use in analyzing trades: the lax (easy) standard, and the strict standard. When a trade involves two teams that made the playoffs last year, with capable managers who know what they are doing, you use a lax standard. When a trade involves unknowns (such as Shahin), or inexperienced rookie managers who are new to the game, then we generally use a stricter standard in ruling on their trades for their own sake. Both me and Mojo are two very experienced managers, and I feel that Mojo's knowledge is as good, if not better than almost anyone else in the leagues. Therefore, a lax standard is used in judging our trade.
4. Now that we have determined how to judge a trade ( as well as how to NOT judge a trade), let's talk about the actual trade. I challenge anyone here to come and put forward a case that Baron and Maggette is a superiorly unfair downgrade to Mojo's team, as opposed to an injured Paul. Even if you would rather have Paul, you need to conclude that this trade is beyond unreasonable to be worthy of veto. Can you honestly do that based on the numbers, or are you simply voting because of fear of someone's team improving?
5. Masoud, did you veto this trade as the commissioner? Because you can have this vetoed with your powers before the 5 out of 9 votes are received. I am curious as to whether you pressed "disallow" this trade. As of now, I see 3 votes of veto on this board (you, persianbruin, ommy). Where are the other two? I would expect the trade to be reinstated if two other votes are not cast here in the thread, just as we ruled on trades in last year's league.
6. Assuming this trade was vetoed by 5 out of 9 managers, I challenge anyone in the league to beat my offer to Mojo. If you give him a deal he likes more than mine, more power to both of you. I'd love to see that, both for you, and both for Mojo. I don't want anyone to feel like they got ripped off. However, if no one can beat my offer, and I send this offer to Mojo again and he presses accept again, then there is no case for a veto. If that were to happen, then I'd know I'm just wasting my time in an amateur league with a bunch of haters who are more concerned about who wins and who doesn't win, then what is right and what is wrong.

By the way, incase anyone wants to know how the trade ruling system works in my other 2 leagues:
We don't do it based on manager votes. We learned the hard way a long time ago that trades are ruled upon by managers more so due to a personal agenda or fear of one team improving, rather than the actual merits and fairness of the trade in question.
We choose 3 very experienced and unbiased managers that we trust, and appoint them as "trade commisioners." These 3 vote on every trade, with a simple 2 out of 3 majority required for any decision. Obviously, you don't vote if you are involved in the trade yourself.
As I explained in the previous post, we apply two separate standards. The lax standard for experienced managers: basically, if you know your stuff, who are we to tell you two what you can or can't do with your teams? But if one of the two managers doesn't know his stuff well enough, is inexperienced, or we sense some sort of fishy collusion, then the strict standard applies.
I think it's time for us to appoint 3 people from our league to be trade commissioners for the rest of the year. The current system in place obviously does not work.

Babak,
regarding the trade offers you sent me They are actually the only decent trade offers you have sent. I was actually considering them, especially the first one. But the problem is you always send me 2 for 1 trade offers when I dont really want to drop anyone off of my roster "yet". Usually they wanna keep shaq healthy for end of the season and that is when it counts the most anyways
Regarding the other league, were they a whole bunch of "biased" UCLA and DUKE fans?? Because that would be the only way you would think that Baron "injury waiting to happen" davis and the underachieved Correy Maggette are worth trading for the #1 player in fantasy bball. Baron went to UCLA when I did, even back then he had injuries, there is nothing new!
The most important part that most of those guys in the other fantasy are missing is that he is not really getting those two for paul only, he is actually getting those two for Paul AND Barbosa!
Babak this is your trick and you did it last year too. You package 2 mediocre players for a superstar because you know there are always good free agents available for you to pick up and as season goes by there will be more, as rookies and 2nd year players start to flourish. Good strategy vali dasteto khoondam!Last edited by persianbruin; 11-24-2009, 12:20 PM.----1990 TM, You will always have a special place in our hearts
