Here is some news building up to the kickoff.

Bahrain arrived yesterday evening in wellington.

they already have had some problems, as their plane couldn't land because of some technical difficulties so they couldn't land and had a 1 hour delay, and than there were difficulties with their luggage, and on their way to their hotel they were hit with traffic, and they were behind schedule.

lol at the press conference they asked Milan macala about if the pressure is on them because they have a higher fifa ranking, and he replies: fifa rankings are only useful for a playstation generator, and it has nothing to do with the game tomorrow, so it wont build extra pressure

asked about the cold wheather and his reply was : it makes no difference the players will run more, so there wont be any problem.


in the NZ camp:

it looks like that they will play with 3 strikers, as they lined up in bahrain,
NZ coach Ricky Herbert refuses to give the starting line up until 1 hour before kick off.

Desperation in Bahrain is soaring that their national soccer team beat New Zealand in Saturday's World Cup soccer qualifier, if their local media is any guide.
A report in the Gulf Weekly newspaper speculated that Bahrainis in their thousands will rise on Saturday morning to watch the game on television " knowing our football-crazy country could be just 90 minutes away from making the dream of playing in next year's finals in South Africa a reality".
After a goalless encounter in Manama last month, the report said coach Milan Macala's men "simply must not lose" the return leg in Wellington.
The scale of the challenge was given a colourful spin by the newspaper.
"The game will be played in gusting winds, on a boggy pitch against a bunch of bruisers who want to stamp their authority on the tie," the report read.
"Groundsmen are understood to be planning to further soak the pitch should it look like drying because they believe playing on a heavy surface will prove advantageous to the home side."
Macala, 65, said he and his team won't be affected by any pre-match mind games or difficult conditions at Westpac Stadium, which will seat a New Zealand record crowd of 35,500.
"The players do not feel intimidated at all about the new environment or the weather conditions. In fact, it is easier for footballers to play in the cold. They soon warm up!" he said.
"Everyone is feeling good about the upcoming game and I believe we have a pretty good chance."
Macala was disappointed his team aren't bringing the advantage of a home victory with them after dominating most of the first game but said it left the tie on a knife-edge.
"If we score once it means they have to score twice. This is an important moment for us and we cannot afford to lose," he said.
"We have to forget about what happened in Bahrain and the missed chances and focus on our next game."
Bahrain are undergoing a three-day training camp in Sydney and are due to arrive in Wellington tomorrow.
Just before leaving home, they cantered to a 5-1 defeat of Togo in a warmup match, with Abdullah Fatai and Ismail Abdullateef both scoring twice while Hussain Baba grabbed the other.

u mean that their football will be on a decline if they lose?
however regardless of what happens tomorrow night, we both must agree that Bahrain is developing their football, lets face it they closing the gap to reach the levels of top Asian teams.
they qualified 5th best in asia 2 times straight. i see this is a development for a small nation that only has 18,000 registered footballers.
they are well funded, they have a successful coach, and come on they seem more organised than our team melli.

therefore i dont see why bahrain should stop there?

Thats exactly why I say that.
They've done great all these years being underdogs and investing in their team now if they fail to go to WC in expense of NZ then they are really a choke because NZ football is the worst ever, their players have second jobs some of them bus drivers etc.
and I heard on the news the stadium will be full 35k fans, if Bahrainis choke they have to be ashamed.
as far as NZ is concerned this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and they will give it everything.

Congratz to NZ.
They defended bravely but Bahrain choked again in play-offs. They seemed to be annoyed at the atmosphere the fans created. hopefully this helps football grow in NZ like it did with Australia.

shayan20 jaan, i disagree with parts of your post.
firstly. no that is incorrect. they dont have 2nd jobs, all of them are professionals. i think that you are mixing it up with the club witakere utd that played in the world championship. but if you think about it they are a semi-pro club, therefore they will need 2nd jobs as they are not full time.
but not the national team. please look at the squad and they all come from professional clubs.

your 2nd part. NZ football is the worst ever? how do you come up with this?

this team had a long term plan. they have been building this squad for 5 years. look at the squads and you will see most of the players there, and there are players in the youth that’s been gradually introduced,

during the past three years they prepared by playing friendly games such as teams as brazil, Italy, they played Australia in england 3 years ago.

how can they have the worst football. i agree that they are not the strongest of teams. but clearly are a developing during the past months.

However i agree with you on the last part a great chance of getting to the WC.
i don't think that they will be given a easier road for quiet a while. this is by far the easiest path than anywhere else in the world, and therefore must take it if football is to grow here.

in NZ football is no where near as popular as it should be. the stadiums are always empty and whoever kiwi
I talk to here has no idea about football. they just care about rugby but again after the goal
they probably learn a big deal
