Italy coach Marcello Lippi has attempted to bury the Antonio Cassano question once and for all, categorically ruling him out of the World Cup in South Africa.

Cassano's inclusion in the squad has always looked doubtful, and Lippi has now squashed any hopes the Sampdoria man had. The coach has his ideas set in stone, and it appears there will be no further chances for Cassano.

"I am very sorry for Cassano as he is a very good guy, but I have my own ideas, even though an incredible situation has been created," Lippi told L'Espresso.

"Everyone says I am a hard head and arrogant, but my real defect is being coherent. Fans and the papers are always like political parties. Everyone has his own candidate for the national team.

No way they will make it that far. They're lucky to qualify for the WC. They should be even more lucky if they advance from the group stages. Italy is not the same anymore. Same with France, Portugal and Argentina.

they've been getting better, they play a great passing game with good build up, its just the finishing thats missing...if lippi uses the right players like rossi, camoranesi, di natale and replaces zambrotta with santon or cricisto or maggio...they'll be a good team. italy will make the last 8 atleast and even in a bad tournament they dont get that humiliated, like euro they lost to the champions in penalty

italy always goes far because obviously when you play anti-football and kill the football you kill the chance for the other team to succeed in football. italy always has crappy offense, but this time its MISERABLE... which is why unless they get an easy team again in knockouts, they wont be able to score and it will probably be 0-0 and then penalties. i dont see them beating a top team in knockout stages unless its by penalties.
