First to our great admins: Because we have made exceptions for the
few true Iranian champs in sports other than football in the football
forum, (For instance Iran's boys Volleyball team success at world stage,
as well as Iran's Basketball team success in Asia both were celebrated
in the football forum)
Here with all of your permission, I would like to ask for exception for Arghavneh, our only tennis player currently ranked in the top 50 (men or women) for what I think will be a break through season and source of pride for us Iranian.
As importantly, it will show the true potentials of our women athlete, if
they are given a fair chance to compete along with the proper training.
Arghavenh has been steadily improving since 2006 when she joined the
ATP. She has risen in ranking to a current 24th in the world (26 in
the Australian seeding). She has already made it to 4th round of
both U.S and French open, and hopefully she can make it to the Quarters
or who knows?
In her last game against Serena (arguably the best Women's player) just
couple of days ago she lost 6-3, 5-7, 4-6 ! (but missed on one chance to put the game away in the second set).
At any rate, with so little to be excited about in football, I hope we can dedicate this one thread for Arghavneh in football forum, to track her in Australian open starting tomorrow and hopefully beyond.
