the problem is not really the skiis. almost all of my relatives went skiing in alborz mountains etc., and we are not RICH. it is disappointing that we cannot produce more proffesional skiiers that can compete in international level.

Navigate http://www.vancouver2010.com/ for all the relevant information. USA and Germany leading the medal counts as of now and Canada finally manged to win a gold on home soil. I was watching the opening ceremonies and Iran's delegate walked in with seven athletes but now only four seem to show up on the olympics roster. Iran consists of 33% mountains so it's a regret that there is not more activity for the Winter sports in Iran. Several of the 82 participating countries (including Mexico, Portugal, and Pakistan) have actually sent only one athlete to the Vancouver games! You can browse everyone by their sports area or team affiliation directly on http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-athletes/

For a country like Iran, how it is now with the government's negligence in various sporting aspects, for us to simply be able to qualify and send athletes to an event that we really have no "push" in is a proud moment in itself. Just like for example, the World Cup. I am glad our winter athletes are given a chance to shine on the worlds greatest stage for such events.

^^ It's great to keep things positive, but seriously, for a country with 3000 years of culture and 70 million population we are seriously lacking compared to so many other countries. Iran didn't even do well in the Summer games!!

In general, Iran, like all other third world countries, is just shitty - in most areas of life.

Iran has to learn from the Koreans, they are our football rivals and fellow Asians who have managed to rise above their level and compete with the stalwarts of the Winter sports. Iran sport federations don't need like 10000 athletes trained for these games, train 15-20 really well, send them to the European countries to be coached properly, and then hope a few can bring in medals to start with. Later on some of these can coach other Iranians. We tend to constantly complain about things but almost nobody steps forward to offer a practical solution. Until these cultural shortcomings are not remedied first, we will keep plowing in the same mud time and again.

Wow they're not showing any of the events that Iran's athletes are in on the broadcasts here in the U.S., not just because it's Iran but because those events just aren't being broadcasted. Instead, it's woman's curling, wtf!

this is possible in men's slalom ! because more than half of the skiers will fall !

                            men's giant slalom
