The Iranian national basketball team's historic match against the three-time world champion US team in the 2010 World Championship in Turkey has been scheduled for September 1.

    Press TV

Iran, which is drawn in Group B, will play its first match against Brazil on August 28 and face Croatia, Tunisia on August 29 and 30.

Following the September 1 match with the USA, Iran will meet Slovenia on September 2 for its final match in the preliminary round.

This will be Iran and the US' first match in a basketball tournament.

lol seriously...haddadi will be the only hope for defense, he needs to be on his A game and try to get like 10 blocks to save us from minimal embarrasement

btw, why is there a game every single day, 5 days in a row? and i thought i had heard iran-usa was the first game (?)
im glad its not, atleast they'll get some practice b4 the big game

        Umm.......why?

Thats like sending an elementary school student to take quantum physics. All is gonna happen is that they are gonna end up feelin like shyt and lose all of the confidence.

I expect to see a lot of tackling and bad fouls by the Iranian players in hopes of slowing down the opponent so they could collect autographs!

u know i have thought about that, i bet all of our players would love autographs from these guys. I could see them doing something like the iran-usa 98 world cup match before the game.

the groups are all pretty much even. group c is the hardest one imo
israel is not even there, so another worry less for iran

iran could actually become 3rd or 4th in the group, if they play their best game

i think this match is gonna get all the coverage for the wrong reasons, but im hoping for a good match, and yea..odds are USA is gonna take this game by 30+ but hey, if they actually show up they can beat the worlds best like Argentina and Spain by 15-20+

either way its gonna be a great showcase for the iranian players, but dont get blindsighted

GOAL: win 2 games (realistic as Tunisia will be a for sure victory and hopefully Iran can upset a team like Croatia) and try not to lose by large margins..in 2006 6 teams out of the 16 knockout round teams qualified with 2 wins, good luck to you guys! and man I cant wait for this tournament

and for my team...there is never a better feeling than whipping China's ass in ball countless times while millions of their fans are watching lol

we need a player like arsalan kazemi who is used to US style of play. but im not sure if he's eligible to play on the national team yet.
