Xavi has come out of age since mi 2006s and Euro 08 was when he was officially known as one of the bests. before that he was nowhere to be seen in Barca's horrible year in La Liga.

of course Xavi has more assists and I mentioned he's been great since early 00s, but just STARTED getting the recognition he deserves after Spain's Euro success.

some people prefer Xavi's killers passes and bossing the midfield

while others appreciate Scholes' amazing consistency, goal ratio and long passes bombing forward.



Scholes has shown consistency for over a decade now.

I think that if you put Xavi and Scholes playing against each other, Scholes would be able to neutralize Xavi while the opposite would probably never happen. But Xavi is far more important to Barca's game than Scholes is for Man U's.

You can't really compare them, but I feel that Scholes is more versatile than Xavi. Xavi is the world's best passing player while Scholes is a greater goalscorer than Xavi is.

Both have won a treble and two CL trophies Xavi won the EURO2008 with Spain.

xavi has been an exemplary player of top quality for many years now. just becoz YOU havent paid attention to spanish league it does not mean he wasnt recognized as world class before that time. it just shows YOU didnt pay attention.

british football gets far more publicity all over the world, that's why some of you ppl side with it and know its stars better and sooner.
that doesnt mean there were no top quality rivals elsewhere. even in france you can find better midfielders than scholes. but most of you dont know, coz we see EPL everywhere but hardly any french league

My friend, is it really necessary to blame people for having different perspectives and opinions? Nobody is saying that Xavi is a bad player or that Scholes is a far better player than him. They are both world class midfielders but with different duties on the pitch. And to be fair (Barcelona is my favorite team in Spain!), Xavi is a part of a team that was less successful (than now) until "only" (please do not misinterpret me when I say "only") 5 years ago. In the early 2000s, Madrid and Valencia were (if not equally as good as Barcelona), even better than Barcelona. However, this does not mean that Xavi was not a wonderful footballer even then. He always has been a wonderful footballer, although he is peaking now.

Xavi is one of the world's best footballers, but this does not mean that other players (and playing styles) are less efficient for the team or as a whole. People are not stupid for praising players that perhaps score more goals, work harder in defense or playing more "primitively" than others.

Another thing my friend, and that is that you have no idea about for how long certain members here have followed football, on what level others have followed football and what footballing knowledge others posses. It's very unnecessary to point out to others from when they have been following these things when you de facto have no clue about it, don't you think? Do you even know how old I am, telling me from when I've been paying attention to football? We have different opinions, it's not a crime.

I feel that many of the posters here focus on the aesthetic of football too much sometimes. Of course it matters to play beautifully, but it's not everything (ask any random Arsenal supporter). It's not always about playing the most attractive football for the (trained and untrained) eye, but also to help the team winning by doing the hard and physical work. That is also beautiful and important!

^ my friend, I am NOT blaming anyone for having an opinion. everyone's entitled to their opinions.
I, for one, think british football sucks ass. but that doesnt prevent me from acknowledging many of arsenal's (or a few others') performances in terms of quality of football.

but when ppl say "xavi was recognized only after ...." , they are supposedly stating a fact and NOT their "opinion".

one's "opinion" would have been along the lines of : "I dont think xavi was recognized" or "I never recognized xavi as one, before euro ...." or ... etc.

hope this makes my statement more clear.

secondly, I didnt say ppl didnt follow football.
but it is more about being aware ( of varying degrees) of different regions' football and stars.
for example, I will never comment of any of south american football clubs or stars or ..., coz I dont follow them and am not aware of what their stars' capabilities. nor would I do the same for Portuguese or dutch or austrian or ... leagues, coz simply I'm not that familiar with their clubs and stars.
for all I know there could be someone far better than many who play in la liga, EPL, ligue-1, .... etc .

for example just becoz I heard about huntelaar a couple of years back does not mean he hasnt achieved anything or wasnt a quality player. it's only becoz "I" wasnt aware of him.

The only thing scholes is better at is his long range goals he scored.
Tough choice But Xavi on his day (which is 99% of the time) has no competition. Take him out of Barca and Spain, they would struggle to win anything and wont play as beautiful.
