Is Away Goals Rule In Extra Time Fair?

(I dont care about Liverpool losing and its not just about that match its about the overall rule)

Is it fair that the team playing away gets 120 minutes to score away goals while in the first leg the opponent only had 90 minutes to score away goals???

I think it is flawed, however one can argue that the home team has extra 30 minutes to score. HOWEVER, the home team has extra 30 minutes to score 2 goals, and away team has extra 30 minutes to score 1 goal.

    take last night's example:
    in 90 minutes:

    in Spain:
    Athletico 1-0 Liverpool
    Forlan

    in England:
    Liverpool 1-0 Athletico
    Aquilani

now those are the very same scores in regular time. when it goes to EXTRA TIME.

if Athletico scores 1, Liverpool has to score 2.

considering both team have got the identical score in the regular time, this looks flawed and unfair.

however, one may say, if the home team can defend well, it's in their advantage to have 30 minutes to find one extra goal.

like, we finished 1-1 after 2 sets of 90 minutes. THAT'S THE REGULAR 180 MINUTES. and then finished 1-1 in 30 minutes of extra time which was granted as a result of identical scores in the regular time. logically it the away goal rule should be scrapped in Extra Time.

I think the away goal rule (especially in extra time) will change in the next 2-3 years.

had Benayoun's onside goal in Spain not been disallowed, we didn't have to worry about that U-R-Gay former manc and his away goal
    --------------------------------------------------------
the whole point of away goal is to encourage away teams to attack away from home. but WHEN IT GOES TO EXTRA TIME. the intention is out of the window. they don't need encouragement to attack to get a goal, if they are losing, they just go out and do it and are granted an extra half an hour to find one, that's why I think this rule should be overlooked in ET.

I wish FIFA/UEFA find an alternative to away goal rule as a whole, something more interesting. tbh, I can't think of one lol

          I don't like it.

I think it was back in 89 when Bayern lost 1-0 in the semis in Milan. Went back to Munich won 1-0 so the game went to overtime and both teams scored and Bayern won so Milan made it through on b/c of away goals and eventually won the whole thing. That ruined my week

I don't think it is a problem...the home goes into the 2nd leg knowing of the possibility, and plays 90 under the same exact rule (away goal rule), so they should also be expected to play and handle the extra 30 min with this rule, both the advantages and its disadvantages.

i dont like it, many teams lose cuz of away goals, they actually TIE, bayern tied their last two match ups against fiorentina and man u, so its not like they really won

but i dont like penalties either, i wish there was a better solution

What solutions could there be? You can't have another game after a two-legged affair, so it has to be decided by penalties or this away goal rule.

seriously, its harder than penalties, so give each team 3-5 tries, no rebounds allowed, direct kick only

yeah i think its bullshit, if its tie over 180 mins then it should remove the away goal rule in extra time.

I would honestly prefer golden goal over the current situation, that way who ever scores first wins and that's that. But i would like to see the away goal advantage removed from xtra time.

                          ekki jaan,

we are not talking about away goal rule. We are talking about away goal "in overtime". btw, you used Bayern as an example, read what I wrote about Bayern vs Milan back in 89. Thats how Milan went through It happens to everyone

The home team gets the advantage of playing at home for 30 minutes more, so it evens out at the end of the day.
