My 20 year old theory on who wins the WC (have not been proven wrong yet!)

I have already said this a couple of times back in 2005 and 2006 (right before the WC) so a new WC so I am gonna say it again.

It was passed a midnight 20 years ago when my friend Arash and I were watching the 1990 WC final between Argentina and Germany in my house in Tehran when I came up with this theory. 20 years later, am I finally going to be wrong? This is my theory:

There are a lot of favorites everytime such as Holland in 1990 and Columbia in 1994 and now Spain in 2010 but when its al said and done and the dust settles there are ONLY 4 teams that can win the WC outside of their home country. They are: Brazil, Italy, Germany and Argentina. Also There are 4 other teams that are capable of winning the WC too but ONLY if they are hosting the event. They are France, Spain and Holland and England

For some reason something happens that even if other teams are favorites they get upstaged by these teams in the WC. Maybe its history. Maybe its gheyrat and experience and legacy. I have no idea what it is but WCs 94, 98, 02 and 06 all prove my theory.

The best example is the 06. The french had that one in the bag but somehow they gave it away. In 02 the germans weren't even supposed to be in the last 8 but somehow they made it to the championship game. The same is true for the italians in 94

Another interesting fact: Between 1950 and 2006 every single WC final had either Germany or Brazil in it except for the one in 1978. Thats huge!

So becasue of this I say the spaniards WON'T win the WC. But of course I am a statistician and we are only right 95% of the time! So it remains to be seen

i agree with ur post EXCEPT THIS....come on brotha u know BAGGIO was WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR in 1993 and 1994 u dont think his team was favorite to go far??

italy should've beat brazil that final, i cant believe Zola sat on the bench while injured baggio (knee injury in semis) played all 120min just to mess up that last freekick. Brazil had one of its best teams but italy's chances were more dangerous, i believe they hit post twice.

ekii as soon as I opened the international page and I saw you were the last reply I knew what was coming !

True that Baggio was the best player in the world, but as a whole the italian team was a weak one and very much comparable to the one germany had in 02 and they barely made it to the finals. I am also not gonna argue that they could have beat Brazil but Brazil wasn't that good either. It was one of those WCs that sombody had to win it!

werent they in the same continent back then? like as far as qualifications go. Not sure. Very close continents lol.
