Your theory seems reasonable enough. Personally, I think Germany will win it ... for some reason, people always underestimate them.

More than just underestimation, many people (Latinos, Hispanics, Anglo-Americans, Southern and Eastern European whites, blacks, and a good portion of the Asians as well as the Australians) tend to dislike them.

i personally always supported germany in world cups, despite how much people have looked down on their chances of winning it. today i talked to a lot of people about how i think germany will go far and that the australia game was only a portion of their capabilities yet noone seemed to agree. i think this is partly because almost all the of german national team plays in germany rather than in england and spain or even italy where the players get more attention. This years champions league demonstrated the abilities of german football though. or rather RE-demonstrated. many people look at teams like argentina mainly because of their star-filled squad, even though they may influence the result, you cannot deny that this YOUNG german squad plays like a true TEAM, which is also an aspect of them i noticed.

My theory is pretty much a very close observation of what happened WCs 54 through 90 and since then its still intact. I should just add that in 82 Spain was the host but didn't win. What I am saying however is that the only way they could win is if they are the hosts

Lets look at one side of each WC final since 1954 in terms or brazil or DFB making it

                1954) Germany
                1958) Brazil
                1962) Brazil
1966) Germany ( vs. England host champion)
                1970) Brazil (vs. Italy)
                1974) Germany
                1978) None (Argentina)
                1982) Germany (Italy)
                1986) Germany (Argentina)
                1990) Germany (Argentina)
                1994) Brazil (Italy)
1998) Brazil ( vs. France host champion)
                2002) Brazil AND Germany
                2006) None (Italy)

This is absolutely crazy!! All of this suspense is really to see which of the 4 will win it, unless the host is one of the other 4

the only impressive part of this prediction/theory is if you did indeed say in 1990 that france is one of the teams that can win but only if they host, otherwise all you did was notice a pretty obvious 40 year old trend which continued because Italy and Brazil are really good. And for a tournament that only has 7 champions in its 80 year history (6 in 60 when you made the prediction), saying that "only" 8 teams have the possibility of winning it isnt exactly going out on a limb

which is why I called it an "obeservation" a few posts before. Thing is I noticed:

                      1) how the french won the euro cup in 84 but both in 82 and 86 as "favorites" lost a german team that barely got there. Remember the french, beat defending champs Italy in the second round and beat the favorites Brazil in the quarters in the best WC game of alltime then lost to a german team that barely beat Morocco in the 88th minute and had to beat the mexicans in penalty kicks! Still they easily beat them 2-0

                      2) Argentina had no business getting to the WC final in 90 but they did. On the other hand the defending euro champions holland with their trio of world/euro player of the year allstars finished THIRD in a group of 4 teams yet still got lucky and advanced to the second round!

                      3) Can't remember when was the last time Spain made it to the semifinals. I don't think they have done it during my lifetime and I am almost 35 years old. Yet they always come in as one of the favorites.

Now you say the theory is not much but trust me if people believe it, they are not gonna be saying this team/that team is gonna win it. Its pretty much a very small number of possible champions, less than the number of fingers on your hand
