Beckenbauer critizes the English Football

Very funny Mr. Beckenbaur.
England have scored the most goals in the qualifers from the European nations, around 34 goals. They scored 9 vs Croatia (home and away) , and the football was kick and rush?
Yeah,we do have Heskey upfront, and it tempts us to hit the long-ball to him, but most teams do have a big player upfront do that. Don't see anything wrong with it. Our goal vs USA wasn't a 'kick and rush' , it was a nice lay-off, and a great finish by Gerrard. If Messi scored with the outside of his foot like that, people would've gone mad.. but coz its Gerrard, no-one really talks about it. Brilliant finish. We have players like Lampard,Rooney, and Joe Cole who are techincically gifted.
If he's based this on the USA - England game, then he's silly and should make comments about lacklustre performance from France,Italy and Spain.. However, if he's basing this on 'Capellos reign' , then he must consider what he said, because ever since Capello has taken charge, England have got the goals..
Mr Beckenbaur comments - a CHEAP shot.I've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

That tells you the EPL is the best league, and why on earth would any English players consider leaving EPL? The only reason why English players may leave, is lack of first-team opporunites or bigger money. Owen and Beckham have left EPL to LA Liga, but I would think they loved the time they had in EPL.
Sorry, his point is weak and invalid.I've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

Money talks...British players like all other players, want more money....if some one pays for them....
How many times have we seen interest from Real Madrid for Gerrard? Rooney? Lets not forget Real Madrid brought Mcmanaman, Owen and Beckham. They don't want English players? Now Mourinho is in charge, he's also interested in Ashley Cole(best LB in the world), whom Mouriho brought him to Chelsea from Arsenal..
Lampard,Gerrard,Rooney, and many more can walk into any TOP European sides.
You know when I gave an example.. English players would never leave unless first-team opportunites or money, and one of them was Jermaine Pennant. He had a spell with Arsenal, Birmingham and Liverpool with few successes.. then he went to Zaragoza.
EPL the best league..
England football team, great potential, but have not delivered in world stage yet.I've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

Dooste Aziz....
I am not joking..!!
I am not trying to put down English Football either.....
England does have some good players...ofcourse it does......
But, not as much as the number of teams they have had ..in four different english leagues..........
English Football, how ever it is....it is not an international style....and thier football is not played in other countries......
And the fact that : They have been qualified to go to very few World cups....tells me, what they are doing, is not working !..at the high level.

English Football can be suited to international style, they can keep possesion and be disclipined, just need the right frame of manager to do it. England lack the nerve to cope in big occassions, however it can certainly be rectified. Define English football? Your saying it is not played in other countries?
Fact? qualified to a very few World Cup?!?!? England have qualified for every WC except 1994 and few more back in the days. In 1998,2002 and 2006, we've been knocked out in teh Quarters via penalty shoot-outs.I've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

Beckenbauer....is not a normal person, and his comments should not be taken lightly...and he has no
stake at bashing English football....
When beckenbauer talks....people listen !
British football, at the high level, ( not at Iran or Asian level )....is isolated style !!.....just like Americans play thier own american football, the British play thier own Football....
Beckenbauer,on his criticism say....they play the old style of " Shut & Kick ", and crosses from sides...and no fluency of passes.
England has won one WC, and that was in his own home.......
Compare to :
Germany
Holland
Argentina
Brazil
France
Italy
Spain
The English Football has always been very predictable, and out of immagination.Last edited by zzgloo; 06-17-2010, 07:05 AM.

We have underachieved, and we are short compred to the nations you have listed, but our football is not 'kick and rush'. We do tend to hit balls to the box, and play dangerous crosses from the wings. I don't see anything wrong with that. Like i said, we have underachieved. You've added Spain to the list?? We've performed better than Spain at the WC. The last time they went to Semis was in 1950 when they got fourth spot. They play better football than us, but have not been better than us. Yes, they did win the euros, but we are talking about WC here.
Your comment about how it's very predictable and out of imagination is something I would disagree.
Anyhow, this is my own personal opinion, and Beckenbuar has his.I've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

We are just having a frindly discussion.....you and I will go on with our own beliefes.....
have you seen the English House of commons ?and compare it to the senate halls of all other countries ....
It is the English way, to keep the old !!
The British arrogance that Football is invented by them, has caused them to not be open with new changes in the game.....
Just look at Spain's Football ( even in the yersterday game that they lost )....
It is all, fast short passes..and advancing the ball by triangulay or dimond shape .....we see that in other top teams.........but not the English.

Hussain Agha,
No need to tell zzgloo whom i have a lot of respect for "Firstly, I don't care how good you are, and who you are, but when you make a comment, it doesn't mean I will listen"
If you are going to have a Discussion here..you need to be more friendly and calm.
Don't get so offended about what Beckenbauer said.
Let's watch how England does in this WC and let them prove Beckenbauer wrong.
They have only played one match!....There is a long road ahead...Last edited by leviathan; 06-17-2010, 07:20 AM.

England has missed out on the following World Cups: 1930, 1934, 1938, 1974, 1978 and 1994. They also missed out on the latest European Championship. There are many countries that have similar or better records than them. They are just all bark and no bite (or grip I should say when it comes to Robert Green).I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.
