faaaaar better than the gay Adidas commercial with that retarded accent announcer...Light tAr..&..Fast tAr ..!
Nike still has Brazil (the most probable champ) and they added the Robinho bit..!
Nike soccer has already kicked Adidas's asss in US and just about to do the same in Europe and the rest of the world as well..! That would be a huge blow to adidas who is already getting smoked by Nike in all other categories all over the world and that after they broke the bank purchasing Reebok, just to become a more formidable opponent to the Nike empire..!
Btw, Nike bought Umbro a couple of years back, hence the reason why they don't block out the umbro logo in their commercials ..!

BTW, Adidas IS the classic sports brand, specially when it comes to football. Nike can dominate other sports, but Adidas and even Puma are both names that are still deeply rooted in the Football (the real one) culture.HOMER: Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether
you win or lose.... it's how drunk you get.

while like you said Soccer/Football has been the heritage of brands like Puma and especially adidas...! for decades no brand has even come close to being the marquee soccer brand than Adidas (Puma has its own fans but is a much smaller company overall and their strength lies in Athletic LifeStyle/Fashion appeal rather than Performance Athletic, thats why they were recently purchased by a huge French lux/fashion house of brands..!) nor has any brand has even come close to challenging Adidas Soccer in sales and market distribution around the world...! Well until about a decade ago when Nike decided to slowly go after that market share and since they have been becoming more and more popular to the point of recently surpassing Adidas in US sales (Although all the MLS is sponsored by Adidas) and also since their intro a decade or so ago Nike MERCURIAL series(which has a minimalist and light weight approach to come closest to playing with barefoot for ultimate control..! ) have been a huge success for Nike in Europe and its been taking huge market share away from Adidas's Very profitable (high $ boot market) every year..! hence the ADIDAS'S Main focus New Lighter and Faster F series, AD Campaign to get back that very lucrative market share back from Nike Mercurial..!!(except that the purple color is buttugly and so is the boot all together compared to the uniform Signature orange and silver color scheme, the clean lines and HUGE SWOOSH of Nike Mercurial and Total 90 series in this WC..! Not to mention the brilliant AD Campaign behind it..!)
my guess is that eventually Adidas will fight back for dear life of its brand and take back the majority of soccer market anywhere else but may be in the States ..!? they will never concede that supremacy which will defines their Brand. Yet they will Never be again the ULTIMATE FOOTBALL/SOCCER BRAND in market share and sales figures like couple decades back ..!
one thing for sure this competition from nike has finally forced the whole football industry to come up with NEW Technologically Advanced boots AND new innovations to help drive sales and brand recognition..!! no longer can they keep making COPA MUNDIALS (my fav. cleat still..! ) and expect customers to fork over $100 for them in large numbers..!
not that many here really give a shittt about this stuff but there....

Originally posted by K.C.I.N. View Postwhile we're at it... is UNDER ARMOUR from Nike too???
I noticed that a lot of WC players had some tight under Armour shorts under their normal shorts
The company became popular through their Specialization of technical Undergarment ..!(cold/warm gear and etc.)
The original moisture wicking technology was originated and offered by NIKE (The Dri-Fit)..! yet it wasnt a huge category amongst their apparel offering due to Premium Dollars and No visible advantages without wearing it and mostly because Nike didnt dedicate big Marketing $$s to promote it..! the story goes that those Nike Exces wanted for Nike to make that technology a Stand Alone Brand of Technical Athletic Specific Apparel and especially wanted the marketing theme to be MORE PRODUCT FEATURE driven and IN YOUR FACE/blunt ADV. (like "Hey this is nike Dri-fit and this is what it does)and nike big bosses for some reason dont go with that idea..! hence a small group of them (3 or 4??) leave Nike to start Under Armor..!
They pretty much started by concentrating on making a special category out that line up of High$ with High Profit Margin technical undergarment and with their fast growth over the last 8 years or so they slowly got into other categories..!
Since the original technology is patented NIKE DRI-FIT( in which the tech is built into the threads of the garment) they opted for a cheaper Spray-on of that to get around the patent and to make production cheaper and have more money to put into HYPE Advertising to popularize the brand..! (in fact independent testing done recently shows that Nike dri fit tech. holds its properties up to 23 washes while Under Armors dissipates in less than a 5 ..!)
nevertheless as far as market share in this NEW, VERY LUCRATIVE TECH undergarment UA still has commanding position with nike going hard after them with the new NIKE PRO tag-line offering prices at slightly below UA at all levels and offering dealer incentive and now they are breathing right down UA's necks atm...!!
my guess is that the piss fight between the exces and NIKE revolved mostly around the advertising approach..! MOST ALL NIKE advertisements always revolve around some inspirational message (like Just Do it..!) and rarely if ever do they promote a specific product Bluntly by saying you should buy this if you want that..!!
Also nike never deviates its ATHLETIC BASED HERITAGE and chase heavily the fashion market..! they would give shoes and apparel to entertainers and rappers and what not but they never make them their obvious spokesperson for their brand..!
Under Armor's recent foray into footwear has been a for most part flop but they have stepped up the quality of their apparel line and in general all other products in their attempts to set themselves apart by making themselves THE PREMIUM ATHLETIC BRAND with premium $$ product has paid some dividend..!
