Why is Portugal even considered a good team??

coming into world cup, this one, the one before and 2002 they were among the top 10 or top 5 favorites to win it....

but they've been terrible, they hardly produce any excitement and they beat up on the weak teams, but against big name teams you think its gonna be a good match but its always low scoring with hardly any good chances

2002 eliminated in group stage

2006 barely beat angola and iran, and their knock out stages were all 0-0, 1-0 games with hardly any excitement

2010 two stalemates and a 7-0 whooping followed by a 1-0 knock out today against spain



SO WHY do people keep rating them as a good team?? is it solely cuz of Ronaldo?? who doesnt even make an impact on the international level??

and before those world cups they have hardly ever even made it to the world cup

well they did make it to the finals in euro 04, 4th place in germany isnt bad...and the excitement is from the star players they have from figo and rui costa to deco and ronaldo. their fifa ranking is a joke though

apart from ronaldo.. who himself has become a little stale since he moved to real... they're not top class team, but they're in the top 10 teams.

ya but WC 2006 their road to semi finals was lame...they barely beat holland 1-0, beat england in penalty (0-0) and lost to france 1-0 in a lame game with one penalty, then lost to germany in 3rd place game

and 2006 WC was 4 years ago.

alot can change in all that time.

Portugal are a good team, but some people just like to hate on them because they have C.Ronaldo.

no cuz they have a long history of accomplishments;

england won a WC and they have one of the best leagues in the world

spain has won 2 euro championships and they have one of the best leagues in the world

holland have won a euro cup and came close to winning 2 world cups, they were unlucky and they've produced some legends over the years
