You'll remember me, 'ballboy' Mueller warns Maradona

Diego Maradona thought Thomas Mueller was a ballboy when they first met, a demeaning snub which has fired-up the German star to plot Argentina's downfall in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final.
The 20-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder scored twice in Germany's 4-1 hammering of England last Sunday and is a contender for the tournament's best young player. But he was virtually unknown outside of Germany when he made his debut in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Argentina in Munich in March and attended the post-match press conference as his country's great new hope alongside the Argentina coach.
Maradona joked he thought the ballboy had arrived and felt so slighted that he stormed off and refused to return until the German left the stage to him alone. But with three goals at this World Cup already and a Champions League final appearance, plus the German league and cup double, under his belt, Mueller is now a household name and sure to cause Argentina problems in Cape Town on Saturday.
"Now I have won two titles and played in the Champions League with Bayern, so a few things have changed," said Mueller. He is too young to remember Maradona as a player, but he saw the midfield maestro play in former Germany captain Lothar Matthaeus' testimonial game in 2000 and was greatly impressed. "He was overweight at that time but what he did with the ball was amazing, something I have rarely seen," he said. "As a coach I can't judge him but the results and the convincing way Argentina are playing means he is doing things right."
When Germamy last played Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals at Berlin's Olympic Stadium four years ago, Mueller watched the game with friends on a giant screen in Munich and well remembers the 4-2 penalty shoot-out win. "I remember us winning through sheer willpower and I haven't forgotten the scenes after," he said, referring to the s***mishes between players from both teams on the pitch after Germany's Jens Lehmann saved the final penalty. "We musn't be provoked," warned Mueller ahead of this weekend's clash in Cape Town, before joking: "I won't mind a fight afterwards if we have won."
thats why they say think before you talk, because if you dont you'll look like an idiot.

I hope you know this wasn't during the WC...

This was during the friendly between Germany and Argentina in Germany where Argentina basically outplayed the Germans and won the game. It's from before Bayern had played the CL finals and basically not many people outside of Europe who don't follow the Bundesliga didn't even know about him until Bayern went far in the CL.

Mueller got his revenge though I guess.

argentina was so c0cky and arrogant, maradona thought he had the best team and the best player on earth so they thought they had already won it. This was a wake up call for them and needed i think too. Also he failed to bring 2 of his best defensive players; zanetti and cambiasso, thats why they sucked in defense especially against germany.

^This. I just can't figure out how any sane person would leave out 3 cornerstones of a triple winning team (Zanetti, Cambiaso and Milito) and even worse not even inviting 2 of them who happen to play in positions where Argentina was missing real quality and experience!
As you notice I also mentioned Milito, because I think Milito would have helped the team more than Higuain. Sure Higuain scored 4 tap-ins, but Milito would've scored them too in addition to having a much higher work rate, being able to play a true target striker and hold the ball, which is something Higuain really couldn't do!

Almost everyone kept praising Argentina in the group stages, but I personally wasn't impressed because it was evident that they had no tactics, but only individual brilliance when going forward.
HOMER: Son, when you participate in sporting events, it's not whether
you win or lose.... it's how drunk you get.

ya it was such a shame how maradona ruined this team, this was a good generation for argentina to win it all

but oh well they wont get closer to italy as far as cups so im ok with it

                    I agree ..!
They were missing zaneti's vast experience and leadership in the backline and Samuel's injury was very ill timed which further exasperated their defensive shortcomings in the German game..! Cambiaso also coulda been the perfect solution for linking d to offense and to protect the backline..! I would have also reverse the starting roles of Millito & higuain .. They are both good finishers but Millito seems the more clinical of the two with higher workRate and intangibles..!& ffs is that really the best keeper arg. had to offer..!???
I still think maradona wasn't THE Man pulling all the strings on the sidelines and beyond..! Their football politics resembled that of Iran with ton of controvesies surrounding their player selection and tactics..! Maradona to seemed more their inspirational leader than coach (kinda like Daei..!)
I thought he did a wonderful job of motivating and absorbing much of the hashie around the team..! I still think they coulda got past the Germans if at least samuel was healthy & starting ahead of that moron #15 who gave away the Early first goal & threw their whole game plans in shambles..! Yea they lost by the same scoreline as Aussies but we all know they really weren't dominated as them, it's just how the games go sometimes..! It's too easy now to say well we shoulda done this and that, after the fact..!
