After watching Team Melli fall apart after the 70th minute of every match, virtually game after game, I was convinced that only our footballers are lacking fitness.
Well, today, I found out that we seem to have embarrassingly unfit athletes in every sport, not just football.
In case you didn't know, Iran's water-polo team is in Romania, participating in a competition which serves as qualifiers for the World Cup.
Now, I must admit I had never seen Iran's water-polo team in action until today and I can say I wish things hadn't changed.
Our water-polo team took hosts Romania in their first game today.
When the match was about to start, I was so excited.
I turned up the volume to the maximum to hear Iran's national anthem. Needless to say, this caught the attention of my romanian collegues.
Bad move! I was about to get humiliated...
Once the national anthems were over, the players of both team took off their robes. What followed can only be described in one word: HORROR!
While the romanian athletes were all muscle, looking like super-models, some of our guys had HUGE BELLIES (I kidd you not!) and you'd think they had hand-picked them out of a chelo-kababi!
The result?
Iran was massacred 25-1!
This was Romania's biggest victory in the history of their water-polo team.
In water-polo, each period lasts 8 minutes. After the first half, the score was 8-0, after the second half it was 16-0. Our team let in one goal per minute!
After the first two periods, the romanian coach took out his best players and used the reserves, otherwise we could have lost by a world-record margain!
After the match, even the romanian national team coach talked about Iran's lack of physical condition, saying he knew our players would run out of breath very fast.
Final note:
Khak bar saremun.
Ma hanuz nemidunim ke varzesh tan-o-badane sare-hal lazem dare.
Today, after seeing our over-weight water-polo players who are on-par with our over-weight, unfit football players (Example: Ali Karimi), I understood that our biggest problem isn't the iranian regime or lack of proper facilities.
Our athletes have an ATTITUDE PROBLEM and are not hard-workers.
Otherwise, no athlete who RESPECTS himself can participate in global competition with a chelo-kabab belly!
