the official 2011 NCAA football thread

Mods please make this a sticky, so we can have one college(American) football thread, where all of us college football fans can discuss games and have some friendly smack talk. We have a lot to talk about from USC's sanctions, I know that puts a smile on Persianbruin's face, to will this be the year that Wisconsin or Iowa boots Ohio State off the of the B10 mountain. How will Nebraska change the landscape next year when they join the B10, and what will be the division split. Could this be the end of Michigan Michigan State rivalry as we know it? This might be the last year who knows B10 might commissioner Jim Deleney might want to preserve the Michigan Ohio State rivalry over Michigan MSU. Is this the year of the Pryor? Is this the year Ohio State finally wins a national championship?

On the Pac 10 was last year a fluke for Stanford or did Jim Harbaugh change the culture of losing down in Palo Alto? Is he next to be the man at Michigan? If Michigan doesn't win 7 games is Rich Rod fired(yes I think Mojo would agree with me here). Will USC play with an us against the world mentality and surprise people in the Pac 10? How will Oregon respond now that their quarterback Masouli is now in the SEC playing for Ole Miss?

Will Bama repeat as SEC champs or will Florida or someone else take over the top spot int eh toughest overall confernece(barf it sucks but it's true overall SEC is still better because of the recruits they get, but not by as much as SEC fans love to think).

Whomever your team is and no matter where you live, now with satellite you can watch your team from practically wherever you are. I get the Big 10 network so I won't miss a single MSU game in LA. This year we have an easy schedule, an experienced quarterback who lead the league in passing yards and passing effiency. Greg Jones is probably the best MLB in the country and we will need him because we are switching to the 3-4 defense. Our question will be how did we improve in the secondary. We have good running backs, receivers, and Tight Ends, along with ***k Cousins our QB.

Go College football! Kick off for USC @ Hawaii for a Thursday night game to get week one started.

If you talk to Ohio State fans it's as if that NC ran out of it's statue of limitations, and Ohio State fans want championship. Tre$$el seriously got criticized for non conference losses to USC especially last year when it was @ Ohio State. The outside pespective is that Ohio State just beats up on sorry Big 10 teams but they can't win the big one, and even if you talk to Ohio State fans they are getting angry that Tre$$el didn't win another. Some college football fans are idiots. He won six B10 titles and a championship but that is not good enough. It's like they are very good but they are not great that is the outside perspective on them.

It's effed up but it is what it is.

Well, when you coach not to lose instead of coaching to win, it has it's downfalls, including losing in these nonconference games.
This year we have Miami, at home, and we'll take care of them. The problem with the nonconference schedule is that they're made as far as 10 years in advance. Who the hell knows who is going to be gooz and who won't in 10 years??? We have va tech, colorado, cal and tennessee scheduled in the upcoming years. Who knows how they'll be playing when we meet them.

OSU is the only team I support that always has a good chance to win it all. Hopefully it'll happen this year.

          This was a great game

They might not b going bowling but as a non biased LA fan of college football, I think USC has a better team than UCLA, and they have a better chance than UCLA to win the Pac 10. They still have better players and UCLA suffered through a horrible off season of injuries. There were some transfers but USC remained healthy in their off season.

For me the hell with both of them I"m more interested in MSU. Shahouman I'm sure Ohio State is going to beat Miami, but you are right they play not to lose against their big non conference teams, and tehat is Tre$$el ball. For us season doesn't really start until we get our first test ND home followed by Wisconsin home. They should have no problems disposing Western Michigan and Florida Atlantic, but that is what I said last year about Central Michigan and look what happened. MSU could very well be 4-0 to start the season, or they could be 2-2.

Last year what got us was a combination of inexperience which lead to a bad start 1-2, and off the field problems at the end of the season which resulted in 14 players suspended some were kicked off the team. We never got our rythim last year and is just seemed we took one step forward and two steps back. MSU fans are really excited to turn the chapter we now have an experienced qb, backfield, wr's and te's and our LB's are good too. Now we just need to get better in the secondary.
