Becau$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Japan routinely invites SA teams for friendly in Japan where they receive a fee. Also apart from Brazil and Argentina there is no money in SA. Just think of advertising sales in Asia when Japan is playing.

It is also for the same reason EU or American (baseball) play S. Korean or Japanese players. Best way to promote their brand in these wealthy markets.

Japan is prolly the strongest team in asia.. they need more competition anyways.. the usa needs to be able to beat teams besides chile and paraguay.. add japan to that list

CONMEBOL has 10 teams. It would be neater to have 12 teams, so you have 3 groups of four, which is why they invite 2 teams each year to compete. Why japan? As someone mentioned, they are after markets with significant buying power and not necessarily the quality of play of their national team. Although I must say that Japan are no pushovers. They certainly showed that at this year's World Cup.

well then we shouldn't wonder why japan and korea are so much ahead of asia.

clearly their management and investment is head and shoulders above the rest.
