Arsalan Kazemi scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Rice over Arkansas-Little Rock 65-55 on Thursday night in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.

Connor Frizzelle chipped in with 13 points for the Owls (5-4) while Tamir Jackson added 12.

The Trojans (6-5) led by as many as nine points midway through the opening period, but Rice hustled back to take the lead with 2:15 left before halftime and never gave it up after that.

The Owls led by as many as 17 points in the second period, shooting 50 percent from the field while the Trojans fell off to 31 percent.

Alex Garcia-Mendoza and Solomon Bozeman led Arkansas-Little Rock with 13 points each.

More Iraooni and just international players could benefit so much if they start out their careers playing American college basketball. It is played at a very high level and you get to truly learn the fundamentals. It really helps to sharpen your skills usually foreigners are good shooters but they are not known for their defense. Well college is a great place to not only get a degree and have a future for yourself after basketball but learn the American style of physical basketball. That is usually the knock on foreign players is that they are soft so it's good that this youg lad made the right decision. The lure of big money playing pro ball in Europe will always be there but in the long run college is the best transition to the NBA level.

The fact that Arsalan can put college basketball on his resume might open doors for him to play pro ball if not NBA at least Euopre and get some good money.

Forget europe. Forget NBA draft second round. If you have seen him play then you know Arsalan is a sure First rounder.

Well honestly I just arrived in the country from Dubai two days ago he's really that good? Usually the first rounders are reserved for guys who go to schools like Duke, UCLA, Mich St, UNC, KU, Kentucky etc they have the upper hand so he must be really good if he is a first rounder playing in a small school. Do you have any highlights of him?

I like his game. He's pretty solid and I think he can definitely make the NBA. I don't see him being anything more than a good role player off the bench though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

he's currently ranked 36th in the NCAA and he is a sophomore.. that already tells you something. he had offers from some of the biggest schools (Seton Hall, Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor and even my own school UH) especially after the WORLD CUP.. he was asked to leave Rice and sit a year and go to Florida (which he wouldn't of done anyhow) he was smart and wanted to have a guranteed start every game, plus arsalan is a REALLY smart guy in real life. he's for sure the smartest guy on TM. his ball IQ is incredible for an international in the NCAA. Remember... arsalan had the 6th best stats in the game playing against the "DREAM TEAM" dont underestimate the guy.. the guy could of went to harvard and got through and probably still drafted. a thing about arsalan is, he's got scouts showing up @ every other game, especially the big teams. he's already got everyones attention.. he's going to be a 1st round pick and all the iranians in houston who have come to watch him play know this.. whether the first 30, or the second 30.. he will be drafted. another guy on here mentioned that Arsalan plays like Hakim warrick (but with a charles barkley/robinson/chuck hayes style of rebounding.. always knows where the balls going to land).. and he was actually right. Arsalan is the most physical athlete we have on TM, he plays 35 minutes of quick pace ball @ ease. he distributes excellent balls to his team mates and another reason why rice plays better.. one thing i like about him is that he is Clutch when he has to. whenever Rice is down by 2 - 3 points.. Arsalan is the only player who steps up and has the balls to either drive in or take the shots.. even playing a position he's not used to.. but he drives in and causes the other team to panic and they end up fouling him.. and he puts this fear in every opposing team with his dunks from the very beginning of every game.. so they panic guarding him sometimes. always double teamed.. they dont even play zone defense against rice, cause the opposing coaches apparently already know who he is.

it all depends on how he develops now until then, if he's in the right team with the right coaches, he can get better and better with experience
