Guys, Ghotbi was not a disaster with TM, he narrowly lost to a strong South Korea squad which actually tied Japan 2-2 and Australia 1-1. Iran's problems cannot all be blamed on Ghotbi for instance the general descent since World Cup '06 and the internal problems, lack of proper facilities, programming, etc. Pejman Nouri not marking his man might have more to do with Iran's quarter final loss.

If Ghotbi does well in Japan (which I hope he does) he might be a break for other Iranian coaches to be considered for similar positions by the foreign leagues. As far as I know we have not had any Iranian coaches taking over significant teams outside of the country. Japanese are not imbeciles, if they signed him they must have seen something good in him that he can offer to their football team.
