I watched all of this game and I have to say on the time he was on the pitch Ronaldo was the better player. As soon as Ronaldo went off Portugal looked much less threatening, he was causing problems for Argentinas defenders left right and center. However Messi is still the better player.

Its already known Messi is something special. Come on he has an exceptional cast all around him who can be more than a sidekick. Maradona had a bunch of nobodies around him compared to what Messi has right now and he still took them to the title. Still no one is expecting him to do what the GOAT did, just that he helps Argentina to some international glory.

Spain with all their starters: Xavi, INiesta, Sergio, Villa.....couldn't break down Columbia for 85 minutes. while Messi ON HIS OWN was ripping through Portugal whenever he wanted at ease only could be stopped by fouling him.
So it shows he can produce the same magic without Barca players around him.
I don't know Maradona, only watched his goals and highlights, but for me Messi is the best I have ever seen a player play this game.
other comparisons are BS, its easier to accept that he is the best player of his generation or something, no point comparing him with someone from 50 years ago..
