Serie A: What an absolute Joke

It's amusing to watch fan boys argue over (and make fun of) the demise of certain football leagues in the European competitions.

Why do you have to "pick" something over something else? Why can't you just enjoy the diversity in football quality and culture around the world? Who said that the most "bling bling" products (La Liga, EPL) are the ONLY leagues worth following? Why can't you just enjoy what is out there, regardless of its ranking coefficient? It's wonderful to watch English football. It's wonderful to watch Spanish football. It's wonderful to watch German football. And yes, it is STILL wonderful to watch Italian football. Regardless of how it went for the Italian teams in this year's Champions League.

Should Liverpool supporters stop cheering for their club just because they are having a tough season? Should Arsenal fans abandon their club because the team hasn't won anything the past 5-6 years?

The diversity and unpredictable state of the European cups make them even more interesting to follow. Who would have thought that Inter would win last year and not the magnificent Barcelona?

Stop bashing and hating, enjoy what's out there instead! This is the f*cking Champions League!

bundesliga teams do well in the europa league, and that is where they deserve to be. i mean what has a german team other than bayern done in the last 10 years in the CL? italy doesnt deserve more than 3 CL places, but germany deserves it even less.

then who deserves more CL places?

spain? the 10th team of bundesliga beat the best team of spain (outside real and barca) 4-2 on aggregate with their coach on the verge of expulsion! (and bremen who is even in a worse condition than schalke knocked out sampdoria if i remember correctly for the champions league position?)
wat spanish team has done anything significant in champions league outside barcelona and real madrid? heck, even real madrid hasnt been doind anything for the past 6 7 years!

England? england has only 4 teams who can play competitive in europe. wat team outside these 4 have done anything in last 10 years in CL? and their clubs are having so much debt that even their top teams are now looking shaky from liverpool to even man utd and chelsea! a situation has arised where arsenal actually has a chance to win something!

france? wat has france done besides lyon reaching semis once and getting trashed and monaco finals once?

portugal? besides porto, their other teams like sporting lisbon or benfica cant even get passed round of 16. sporting lisbon got trashed 7-1 from the weakest bayern team in decades!

russia? ukraine? wat have they done anything in CL?

holland? they seem to be in a worse situation then russia and ukraine!

u can make the same argument about any team outside the usual 8-10 european top clubs. the rest keep coming and going.
even the top 10 clubs are beginning to lose ground now.

so either make the CL reduced to top 10 or 12 teams of europe and maybe even make it a super league.

or keep it the current format and take into account europa league coefficients which determines the strongest 2nd degree teams of europe and give them a chance in CL to compete with the big boys! (which is what is being done currently)

we are seeing a very unique situation in european football right now.

in italy, all the big teams have become so crap that a crappy ac milan is leading the table. this ac milan is an insult to the milan of the early 2000s!

in england, the teams have all become so weak that a no star and grandpa man utd is leading the table and arsenal actually still has a chance of winning a trophy!

in germany, bayern and bremen have become so weak that an inexperienced dortmund is leading the table followed by leverkusen and freaking hannover!

in spain, too real madrid is still choking on international stage and just bullying around the poor spanish clubs

in france, lyon no more is itself, not eve bordeaux or marseille but lille and some other team whose name i cant even remember!

besides barcelona, i dont see any european powerhouse doing as expected.
its strange and weird to see almost all the top clubs in the world are in such a pathetic situation.

none of these current teams are as strong as they were past few years in my opinion. maybe this is one reason why this year's CL might have actually upto 4 out of 8 2nd rate teams in the quarter finals (shakhtar and schalke already qualified. marseille and lyon still have a relatively decent chance)

so which country actually deserves more spot? germany has the strongest and most 2nd degree teams among all in europe in the forms of schalke, bremen, stuttgart, dortmund, leverkusen, hamburg!
unless u want to give it away to finland and macedonia

we have to remember just because the champions league accomodates 32 teams but it doesnt mean there are 32 european power houses in europe. there are only a handful of power houses, the rest of the teams are 2nd degree teams who have to struggle to squeeze into this tournament! The CL is a tournament of european power houses and a number of outside forces, struggling to reach the top and establish themself as a powerhouse.

you make good points, but as i said, germany doesnt deserve 4 CL places, the more fare option is to have separate co-efficient points for Cl and EL. germany should be taking one of the EL places from italy, not the 4th CL place. italian teams have done better than german teams in CL in the the last 5,10,20,30,40,50 years, so why does germany get the 4th place?

this whole series came down to a silly mistake by yepes, a defender who rarely plays, he did a horrible job at tackling lennon, both games milan was full attack and spurs parked the bus



ya they're just not that good, all 3 forwards are overrated

they take points away from each other because no team can play consistently for even 2,3 matches. look at how many points juve and roma have lost against teams like brescia and cesena. while it makes the league more interesting becuase any team can beat each other, it is certainly hurting the league because the "big teams" are not performing. i have seen some horrible displays from roma and juve. if they cant beat these relegation teams, how are they going to win in europe?

Of course there is a bigger chance for a country with more representatives in a tournament being more successful. I'm not saying that German teams have been better than Italians the past 10 years, but if the Germans would have had 4 teams during this stretch (like England, Italy and Spain) maybe the achievements in CL would have been more prosperous than history shows.

Right now Germany definitely deserves having four teams in CL.
