Gary Neville's Testimonial Match- Man U vs Juventus

A nice way to say good bye to a Man U legend, although I didn't always approve of his playing style. Here are the highlights, nice to see Beckham and some of the "oldies" in the Man U uniform again

they lost 2-1 to juve at old traffor although the game was only a testimony.

i read somewhere neville picked this game himself cos of of the memories of a CL game against Juve in 1999 or something, but in all honesty, one would expect him to choose to play against bayern in memories of the miracle CL finals in 1999!

anyways, i dont think he was a great player but to man utd, he seems to be a legend

I beg to differ. The two legged games with Newcastle was what made United go to the final, and it was two breathtaking games. Juventus were probably the best team with the likes of Zidane and Inzaghi there.. United came and won at Turin.. The final was abit of a stalemate , and United didn't play well. Also, Neville doesn't like Germans.. so bayern don't deserve to come lol

To your last point, I think he has been the best RB in the Premiership in the last decade, he has made the RB his OWN for England, and was one of the most consistent players for England in Euro 2004, and World Cup 2006. There has not been many RB who have been consistent in terms of getting the balance between defending and attacking right. You can bring names like Lahm,Cafu, Zambrotta .. They were very good going forward, but when it comes to defending, they were very suspect. Neville - you get the reliability and the assurance.

ya we had this discussion in united thread, i thought it was a great game, no pressure, therefore great atmosphere, both teams played great football and used almost all their players. The united fans were great too, they even cheered for juve and del piero. Juve's 2nd goal was a sick ass free kick by this new young kid. Juve's first goal, neville didnt cover pepe for the header

ofcoures u would disagree, ur a die hard united fan

but since when is owning the RB position of england national team an achievement? How many worldclass fullbacks has england produced that neville did something impossible?

the truth is my friend, that whenever any non-manchester football fan or even critic talks about the top fullbacks in the world, neville's name is never mentioned.

neville has always been nothing more than a good RB, nothing more. he was precious to man utd, but outside man utd, noone really considers him a top fullback in the world.

neville didnt want bayern to come cos he knew they didnt deserve the trophy in 1999

            Not really.

and how is it NOT an achievement? Whether they produced other world-class fullbacks, it doesn't undermine Nevilles value and consistency to keep the RB for himself.

and the truth is my freind, Neville will be recognised as a top fullback in ENGLISH football and PREMIERSHIP.. and thats even asking rival fans like Arsenal,Liverpool and Chelsea fans.

I didn't consider him a TOP FULLBACK in the world, but certainly one of the best in his generation and BEST in England.

I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

Its sad to see these testemonials happen, I remember Bergkamps at the Emirates, when Daei said goodbye and many other ones...

These were players i grew up watching as a kid. Once you are out of childhood i find for my own case you wont be THAT attached to a player in terms of being a big fan.

I mean for example as an arsenal fan i love van persie and fabregas but no matter how great they become i doubt i will ever like them as much as Bergkamp and daei and them because of the childhood thing.

exactly, as much as i love Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc. noone of them would match the love i had for Ronaldo, Crespo and Batistuta

its not an achievement because even if he is an average fullback,he can still hold the position to urself. thats how poor england has always been in terms of full backs.
