    2011 William Jones Cup

Iran goes with the A team with the likes of Haddadi, Kamrani, etc. No arsalan kazemi though since he's in rice uni and all which starts soon

The William Jones Cup is a friendly tournament in Taiwan mostly participated by Asian teams every year to prepare their national teams for the season. The FIBA Asian Championship 2011 (China) starts on 15th September so this is a great tourney for preparation. This Asian Championship is also the qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Iran has done very well in the William Jones Cup before. They came in 2008 and 2009 and won it both times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Jones_Cup

The 8 teams going to be in this friendly round robin tourney this year are Iran, South Korea, Philippines, Jordan, Taiwan, Japan, UAE, and Malaysia.

    Iran plays Philippines tomorrow.

you should be able to watch in the link below. I remember last year, most of the links were for sopcast so download that to be ready.

i really hope iran can make it, especially for arsalan cuz it'll just drive more attention to him from nba scouts if he plays in the olympics

        im not sure :S

iranian news/media really doesn't focus on basketball at all especially with team news and such. they just write up a report after the tournament for these things
i actually used a philippino basketball news site to check out the tournament and see the teams/schedule for this.

^^supposedly there is an iranian-american on the roster, his name is jonas lalezadeh from university of california in Irvine. he plays guard position.

i found irans squad list below for this tourney. sammad nikkah bahrami is apart of it.
btw this is just a friendly tourney so don't expect matic to field the best team in every game as he will want to keep his players out of injuries for the upcoming asian championship

Iran losing 37-30 at half time. Iran is doing very poor in D and rebounds but things got better when Haddadi came on. alot of rotations and changes made by matic in the game so far.

i think haddadi has played about 14mins and gotten 14points which is the topscorer atm.

even though bahrami is in the squad, he was no where to seen. if he played for even 5mins, iran would be up by now. you can see how badly his creativity is missed in this team. hope he's ready for the asian championship. no afagh either

                      Final Score:
                      Iran 59-73 Philippines

big upset in terms of asian basketball even though iran didn't have the best possible squad today in the game or on the bench for whatever reason.

very poor game by iran offensively and phippines even got more rebounds. haddadi should really pick it up in the next game. btw no afagh, bahraimi, or kazemi. iran plays japan tomorrow.

^^iran is still very unprofessional even with all the experiences that it has gained over the couple of years. hopefully this will be a wake up call, especially for haddadi. with his nba experience he needs to step up, and lead the team

ya iran's real talents are just about haddadi, nikkhah and arsalan
the rest are just average and unprofessional but its cuz inexperience and there arent many basketball courts in iran, if it was in every neighborhood then we can progress

match started. iran vs japan. iran leading 10-2 in the 5th min of 1st quarter.
once again i don't see bahrami and afagh anywhere even though they were in the roster list for this tournament.

i think there something fishy been goin on with afagh and samad, right before the world cup last year they got injured and didnt play and now they're agian both no there, might be politics

ive already heard from friend in iran that say to be part of basketball team its all party bazi, there are lots of good player that never get picked
