The volleyball wc competition is among the toughest -maybe is the toughest- sport diciplines. All teams have to play each other, and a win is not enough its also important how to win, you get different points for example by winning 3-0 or 3-2.

In the next round we play USA, Egypt and China. These are 3 must win games if we want to have a real shot at the olympics.

The final round we play Brazil, Italy and Russia- the three top teams in the world!! If we pull off one win out of the three, that would be awesome/help us qualify to the olympics.

Remember even if we dont qualify thru this tournament...theres always the actual qualifiers that take place in June, in which Iran plays against South Korea, Japan, India,China, and only one of the asian teams will go to the olympics. So far we are in amazing shape. This is great experience for our boys. Our other asian rivals are all at the bottom of the table with 0 wins, while Iran is on top with 4 wins! We should be proud.

An interesting development- China (0wins- 4 losses) is leading Brazil(top ranked team in the world) 1-0, they are now in the second set. That would be a major upset.

            CONGRATULATIONS TO IRAN 7 IRANIANS

I don't know how to show my happiness. These guys definitely make it to Olympics directly! They have beaten Serbia the champion of Europe and Argentina the champion of South America. I think their first shocking loss against Cuba, the powerful opponent who had lost to them before, made them get themselves together and fight the next games. hats off to the Italian coach who had told everyone in the last cup, that Iran was going to soon dominate the world volleyball! What a great prediction!!

Great job! We will thrash the next 3 teams easily and on the last 3 games, definitely beat one of the top 3. If not Brazil, we have a good chance against Russia because we are really good against Europeans. We used to suck against South Americans but damn we were good against Argentina! But I do not see us to win against Brazil. I hope and pray but I think we need one more notch up to get to Brazil. Maybe in London 2012? But we will make it to Olympics. I feel it coming Maybe making up for basketball's shocking disqualification!

                Press release

Fayazi: Playing with the best players is good for my energy

Young Iranian attacker Pourya Fayazi shows promising performance at FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup

Osaka, Japan, November 25, 2011 – Young Iranian attacker Pourya Fayazi never imagined to play on the same court as Olympic gold medallist Ivan Miljkovic. But Iran’s excellent performance in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup has put them in the spotlight.

In the past, Fayazi would only watch the biggest volleyball stars on television but his overwhelming presence in their victories against Poland, Argentina and Miljkovic’s team, Serbia, even exceeded his expectations as a player.

Fayazi got his first break when he was 11 years old when a coach invited him to play for the school. He then represented Iran in the FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship in Argentina and the FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship in Brazil.

Although he was not part of the Iranian team that won the Asian Championship, he got his biggest break when Julio Velasco invited him to play for the senior team in the FIVB World Cup.

His playing wisdom complements his energy on the court – with a fitting mentality that Velasco desires to have with his new team. The young player is truly deserving of a spot in the starting six.

Fayazi’s World Cup experience playing with the best players may have just begun but he will exploit it to intensify his good energy.

                    Press release

Japan-based Iranian fans cheer on their heroes to fulfill Olympic dream

The Iranian fans have been contributing some special flavor to the matches played at Osaka Central Gym

Osaka, Japan, November 24, 2011 – Iran is gradually turning into the real sensation of the FIVB World Cup here in Japan, especially after the players mentored by Julio Velasco edged three top teams like Serbia, Poland and Argentina. The coach who guided Italy’s “Dream Team” throughout the ‘90s is unanimously perceived as the man that has chiefly contributed to such terrific results not to forget the Asian Championship his side claimed this past September in Tehran. Although volleyball is already quite popular in Iran, still soccer remains the sport that is attracting much attention from the population as well as financial resources from the government.

However, as they are playing far away from home, the guys around the Argentinean-born head coach are enjoying loud and passionate support from an Iranian crew that got together yesterday and today at Osaka Central Gym. Such fans have been living in Japan for a long time, having settled in the “Land of the rising sun” as teachers, car traders etc. They have taken days off from work and did also have to cope with family affairs but eventually got the chance to cheer on their heroes that have embarked on the adventure to book a ticket to the 2012 Olympics in London.

“We came here to support our players as we already did in the past as some other Iranian teams came to Japan for international or Asian competitions” they say. Having enjoyed previous events in futsal, they still feel volleyball has got a unique appeal and can’t believe their guys have been able to edge some of the strongest sides out there. “Coach Velasco is like a magician, he is the one who has raised the bar and contributed to that speedy improvement of our national team” they add.

Although they have different professional and educational backgrounds, they still share the same passion for the sport, not exclusively for volleyball. “Sport is a unique ambassador for peace and friendship, it unites people no matter of their political views, religion, or culture” they agree. Having traveled on their own expenses from Shizuoka, Yokohama or from the neighborhood of Osaka, they may be well considered the only foreign crew that has been contributing additional color and flavor to the matches taking place here in Osaka. And some are set to continue following the team also for the next rounds of the competition taking place in Fukuoka and Tokyo. Their true passion for the sport and loyalty to a message of friendship is the best legacy someone may take from a wee chat with that colorful group.

Unbelievable, I think it's safe to say that this is our best seniors sports group team in international stages ever, be it football, volleyball, basketball etc.

I am sooooooooooooo impressed and proud of our boys, what a phenomenal team work and team spirits!

BTW those IRIB commentators need to be fired ASAP, the most boring and unprofessional reporters ever. Lack of excitement, professionalism in full report and giving information etc. Horrible, horrible...
