saw the game poor first set...however iran did not deserve to lose set 3 after coming back from 20-17 down to 23-23 and lose 26-24 however we won the final set very well beside usa we wil have egypt and china which are easy....then 3 hard game brazil...russia...and italy

Same here watching this from bremen at 5:20... its crazy..
i must say after having always kept an eye on the iran volleyball TeamMelli, the whole volleyball federation is better organized than IFF. If its more or less corrupt than IFF? i donno.. I guess maybe there isnt that much money in it as football. So people can mind their own business and let the sport grow.

all those years we should have supported the volleyball team isntead of the football team, hehe NOT..

What's important at this stage is for our players not to become too complacent because it would honestly be a shame for us to lose against the likes of China and Egypt given how we've performed against the heavyweights. Secondly, we need to get into matches starting from the beginning of the first set rather than the second set (since five set victories only earn you two points rather than three). If we are to make the Olympics through this tournament, we'll need to start picking up 3 point victories (something that is very possible in the next round which consists of the USA, China, and Egypt).

We are very happy with this victory. Argentina is a strong team but a young one. We served very well today.
Our system of blocking and defense worked well. (Mehdi) Mahdavi is a setter who blocks very well.
Argentina coach - Javier Weber
In all sets we had a very difficult game. It was tight. Our problem was in attacking. Then our blocking our blocking and defense didn't work. It was the combinaton of those that led to the result today.
Iran captain - Alireza Nadi
They have a lot of experienced players. We had good tactics for blocks. We blocked better from the second set.
(Since Velasco took over) Our mentality is changed. Everybody is working together for one goal. We have gained good experience from recent tournament we played in.
Argentina captain - Rodrigo Quiroga
They played a great match. Their blocking and serving put us under pressure. We didn't play good in attack.
We have to think about the next match. The next three matches (against Brazil, Russia, Italy) will be difficult for us.

Osaka, Japan, November 24, 2011 – Iran is gradually turning into the real sensation of the FIVB World Cup here in Japan, especially after the players mentored by Julio Velasco edged three top teams like Serbia, Poland and Argentina. The coach who guided Italy’s “Dream Team” throughout the ‘90s is unanimously perceived as the man that has chiefly contributed to such terrific results not to forget the Asian Championship his side claimed this past September in Tehran. Although volleyball is already quite popular in Iran, still soccer remains the sport that is attracting much attention from the population as well as financial resources from the government.

However, as they are playing far away from home, the guys around the Argentinean-born head coach are enjoying loud and passionate support from an Iranian crew that got together yesterday and today at Osaka Central Gym. Such fans have been living in Japan for a long time, having settled in the “Land of the rising sun” as teachers, car traders etc. They have taken days off from work and did also have to cope with family affairs but eventually got the chance to cheer on their heroes that have embarked on the adventure to book a ticket to the 2012 Olympics in London.

“We came here to support our players as we already did in the past as some other Iranian teams came to Japan for international or Asian competitions” they say. Having enjoyed previous events in futsal, they still feel volleyball has got a unique appeal and can’t believe their guys have been able to edge some of the strongest sides out there. “Coach Velasco is like a magician, he is the one who has raised the bar and contributed to that speedy improvement of our national team” they add.

Although they have different professional and educational backgrounds, they still share the same passion for the sport, not exclusively for volleyball. “Sport is a unique ambassador for peace and friendship, it unites people no matter of their political views, religion, or culture” they agree. Having traveled on their own expenses from Shizuoka, Yokohama or from the neighborhood of Osaka, they may be well considered the only foreign crew that has been contributing additional color and flavor to the matches taking place here in Osaka. And some are set to continue following the team also for the next rounds of the competition taking place in Fukuoka and Tokyo. Their true passion for the sport and loyalty to a message of friendship is the best legacy someone may take from a wee chat with that colorful group.
