They lost the game because Arsalan was unclutch with the game tied 61 all with 11 seconds remaining and Kazemi missing both FT's. Then Marshall scored on a layup with 3 seconds remaining and Rice suffered a bitter defeat in their first C-USA game.

Thumbs up to Arsalan for playing with all he can though being injured before the game.
didnt say anything about it cuz I was depressed and felt like shyt (not as much as arsalan himself) but its more to that. I went to the game with Keyan and we were sitting right in front of the baskets where rice was on offense and we were on the first row. Long story short, with 11 seconds left arsalan stole the ball and had "clear path" to the basket when the marshal player tripped him and he was in a LOT of pain. He was clearly shaken. It was so bad that I thought he might just leave with an injury. I am not surprised that he missed the 2 FTs.

But this is what was interesting:

      1) the ref didn't call the clear path foul which would given arsalan and rice 2 shots plus the ball. People were outraged by that.
      2) Rice coach fked up by not deciding to foul the marshal player. Rice had a foul to give and when marshal was on the attack, rice players should have been instructed to foul the guy with a few seconds left. Instead they just watched him drive to the basket. total fk up by that coach.

instead of the headlines saying arsalan stole the ball with 11 seconds left to dunk the ball for the go ahead basket this shyt happened. Needless to say he was pissed. I told him I was surprised that he even got up after those nasty fouls but he was so shocked by the turn of events, just shook his head and went to the locker.

Overall, Marshall players were so physical. One time they beat him so bad I honestly thought bruised if not broke his neck. The ref under Marshall's basket in the second half just let people beat him up. Nasty game

Everything persianbruin said is exactly what happend. AK was fouled left and right... and he had 11 seconds left with no one to stop him at the rim, instead, an uncalled flagrant was whitnessed.. AK was down for atleast 45 seconds, very shakened is an under statement. AK played pretty solid.. his team took poor shots (in other words didn't give him the ball enough, time and time where he needed to get the ball) and Marshall was very physical.. with a team full of nothing but shooters. The Rice coach has AK playing the center position too much.. had he been on another team in the NCAA, im sure you'd see "a lot" more as far as 'statistics' go, so I wouldn't judge on paper too much guys

AK went back and fourth, from playing wide open D on the perimeter, back to getting rebounds and back to shooting/dunking. I was proud of his game. Did Shahryar mention that they tried to break his neck?!

P.S. I should have videos of all his games soon after this season, if anyone here would help making an "Arsalan Kazemi King of Dunk" Video. It'd be greatly appreciated.

is he ok after that injury?

ya it sux he has to play out of position for this crap team, if he was in any other school he could prob shine more.

Thanks for the summary of the game persianbruin and Keyan.

Hope Arsalan is not hurt and comes up big to kick SMU's ass tomorrow night.

Rice seems a better team this year, they can think of a post season,Marshall was ranked 2nd in the preseason just behind Memphis. If Rice gets things together they can be a big threat in the C-USA tourney.

What a game by Arsalan Kazemi tonight. He had 21 points ,12 board ,3 blocks ,1 assist and a pair of steals in 37 minutes. He is shooting ridiculously great from the field with 65% the whole season. He was 7/10 from the field today and also 7/10 from the FT line.

awesome job by arsalan....what is their record 10-7 now?

those of u who know NCAA, what are his chances of making march madness 64 teams?

could he be the first ever RICE player to make NBA?

in a relatively weak conference in the conference USA...unless Rice wins the Conf. USA tourney, they have no shot in making the tournament. They may have a chance to make the NIT (which is another postseason for the best teams out of the 65 team NCAA tournament bracket)

thanx, so to win the conference they have to finish top of the table, or is there playoffs?

There is both. The best record within the league is one championship, then the conference USA tournament winner also goes in. (That's how it is with the Mountain West which I'm familiar with, but I'm not 100% sure for Conf. USA)

The standings in the C-USA are only good for a team making an appearance at other 3 invitational tournaments primary the NIT. Though it has effects on the C-USA tourney playoff games being held through march 7 to march 10 . The format is as it comes in the followings(The games will be played in Memphis):

First 4 teams rest in the first round and other games are played between 5&12,6&11,7&10 and 8&9.

                        Then:
                        QF1:Team#1 Vs Winner 8&9
                        QF2:Team#2 Vs Winner 7&10
                        QF3:Team#3 Vs Winner 6&11
                        QF4:Team#4 Vs Winner 5&11

                        SF1: WinnerQF1 Vs WinnerQF4
                        SF2: WinnerQF2 Vs WinnerQF3

                        Final: WinnerSF1 Vs WinnerSF2

The winner of the C-USA tourney in the playoffs will get an NCAA March madness birth!

he's currently 6th (tied at 5th really) overall in rebounds in all of NCAA with 11.3 rebs/game vs. the #1 player who has 12.9 rebs/game

Hollinger (which is a dependable rating system) has kazemi as the 25th best player in the ncaa right now and a possible second round pick. keep in mind he's gonna play another year as well.
