just think of it this way, someone leaves their country for better life and settles down in the X country, and then they have a son that is a natural born citizen of the country X but his culture and blood is the country his family came from... most likely that kid will represent the country that he was born and raised freely in. place where gave him a chance in the world. i don't mean this to be a personal attack or anything and hopefully you don't take this the wrong way, but think of it as if one day your son decides to play for U.S. national team(and Iran is still the same way as it is today) well he was born and raised here. are you going to stop him from playing with a football federation that is by far more professional?


we have a half Iranian half Filipino that was born in Sweden... So Iran we are like in the same shoes.

Gomez is half German from mom side and was born in Germany, other half is Spaniard so either way he is European lol

I have spoken to many Germans and most say they like the diversity in both their country, and their sports teams. Oezil is actually one of my favorite players as is J. Baoteng based on the quality of their game. In 1990 these player positions would have been filled with Luthar Matthaus and Stefan Reuter. There are in fact teams out there who are still very homogeneous... I can think of Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Spain, Ireland, and even Italy for the most part.

In France, I can not remember a debate except in this video on obtaining French nationality only by right of blood and not by birthright. I'm actually very happy that Sarkozy's father was a foreigner, and from his mom's side, grand father was also a (Jewish) Greek. People here do not care much except probably some extreme-rightist and those judging from outside.

You are wrong. It really does make me sick. People should trace their bloodlines and be proud of what they represent. It's one thing if you are mixed and have 2 separate bloodlines but being born or growing up in a country has no bearing on your bloodline.

as for ozil, his grand parents immigrated from turkey, so his parents and himself were born and raised in germany much like americans

Actually I am the perfect example to refute this scenario as I was born and raised in the US. As far as my son while I wouldn't put a gun to his head to stop him if he makes this decision, I would try to talk to him before it came to this point to show him the decision is wrong.
As far as myself the only time I thought about playing for the US national team was when I found out they would be hosting the 1994 World Cup and thus would be taking part in it. Given how much their team sucked at the time (1988) I was certain I would be able to make the team and thus play in a World Cup. The decision would have nothing to do with me feeling American but rather finding a shortcut to the World Cup (similar to players wearing qatar's national team jersey). I'm glad it never panned out as I would have seriously regretted it later. Interestingly when I was living as a kid in the US I was much more alligned with Iran than the US, even in the mornings at school when we had to sing songs like God Bless America or Oh Beautiful I would under my breath replace America with Iran in the lyrics. So I don't really think where you live or grow up in well have the final say in what you consider your identity.

As long as they have a bloodline I'm ok with it. I would be ok with Khedira playing for either Tunisia or Germany. Although I have a problem with his parents as this opens a different can of worms of me frowning upon marriages between people of different nationalities.

'No shame on you when your parents where jailed by IR should you go to IR and play for IR.Iran. You might think your only playing for the people of IRan but you are playing for both.

I totally disagree with you on this subject, although there are two sides to this but I'll try to explain my opinion regarding this situation.

Most of these players have either emigrated to these European countries or their parents/grandparents have, with mostly coming to these countries for a better life and with most of them achieving that due to many reasons, such as government support, free schools, jobs and just a general quality of living and support, so why is it so bad for these players to give something back to these countries that have supported them through out their life and helped them make who they are?!

On the other hand we have players who get neutralised who have nothing in common to the country they are playing in, like the players playing in Qatar, in that scenario I agree with you but most of these so called "foreign" players in the Europan championship are either 2/3 generation emigrants that have lived all their life in these European countries.

When you represent a country you should have blood ties to it. There's nothing wrong with living somewhere but staying true to your roots. Take PFDC as an example. How many of us are living outside Iran yet come to this site because it is about Iran?
