See my post below. EXTREMELY unlikely at the Olympics.

Another media comment regarding Mazaheri's disqualification:

"Jose Larduet (Cuba) vs Ali Mazaheri (Iran) via DQ-2: And right back to the shoddy officiating. This was almost as ridiculous as the Azerbaijan-Japan disgrace in the bantamweight session. Larduet was docked in round one, then in round two, Mazaheri couldn't do anything without being warned, and on the third warning, he was disqualified. It was absolutely absurd, and these two shoddy, shady happenings this afternoon are exactly why Olympic boxing has a bad reputation. For four days, we got by without much happening. Now we've got a disaster this afternoon. I sort of warned about this the other day, but somehow it's still surprising that things like this just happen. To Mazaheri's credit -- and this will surely get him in trouble with AIBA -- he refused to stand by the referee for the official decision at first. After waiting a moment, he went over and shook the hands of the Cuban corner. Then he left to cheers. Good for him."

            Absolure disgrace.

First round, he gave a caution to the Cuban too for going too low with his head. He then gave a very soft caution to Mazaheri for hugging the Cuban, which the commentators said was mainly to even things out from the first round. He then gave two more for the same offence in quick succession (leading to a disqualification), and both the crowd and the commentators showed the disbelief about the decision (crowd were booing him).

Mazaheri then walked off after shaking the Cuban corner's hands. The Cuban boxer then walked off embarrassed with a towel on his head, but it wasn't really his fault.

I doubt there will be any chance of an appeal now anyway as he didn't do the formalities at the end of the contest. But good for him, screw that ref.

Massive shame though for a 30 year old to miss out on the chance for a medal like this. He won't get another shot at the Olympics.

So was he our best boxer then? If I remember right, he was our flag bearer in the opening ceremony too, right?

            Shame, shame...

The AIBA federation needs to take swift action on the official. This is utter ridiculous! The ref has just threatened the integrity of the sport during these games which desperately needs to be fixed with all the rigging over the past few decades. Montazeri was screwed over! Every expert analysis are highlighting this event. It will gain ground and become a huge issue throughout the games. He made the great nation of Iran proud and we the people are honored by such a warrior representing us.

I feel so frustrated man, our hopes got robbed and I can't stand that. I really had hope in him to win a gold medal. This year Iran haves good athletes, but I think we are going to get soooo screwed over and should be happy with ONE medal.
