This is true.
We rely on exceptional individual talent in every sport as our athletes don't receive the support they should.
But what do you expect if the olympic team is run by the crook Aliabadi

Japan went from being absolutely NOTHING in the hardest sport in the world (football) to one of the best in a couple of decades. Now they're beating the likes of Spain. We're a country of almost 80 mln and we always have to rely on the same old sport(s) for our 1-2 medals. Shameful.

In Olympics you can find a gazillion sports to be good at. How difficult is it to get 100 poor athletic kids, stick em in a school made especially for them and train them to become good at one of these lame sports like ping pong? This is exactly what China does. They get a poor kid from the provinces, pay their parents, guarantee the kid's education and put a roof over his head and train him day and night. The worst thing that can happen is that the kid isn't going to make it and you spent money educating him.

I'm making too much sense though. This is IR we're talking about. A theocracy based on Islam lmao

I understand your frustration KA jaan, but in which sport had you expected Iran to get a medal so far? Table tennis?! Cycling?! Rowing?! Swimming?! So far the only little chance we had was Mazaheri, but we saw what happened to him yesterday because of that fcking German referee.

We should wait and see what happens during the weightlifting and wrestling competitions.

first of all u cant compare china with iran. china has 5-10 year plans. about 10 years ago the started to invest their money in sports to show the world that a "communist state" can reach everything, and now they are among the best sportcountrys of the world. there are some documentations about china how the work with children at the age of 8. and i dont really want persian kids be treaten like that, actually i dont wan anybody to be treaten that bad. And ping pong is for china like weightlifting for iran, so this is not really a good example.

but neverless i totally agree that there is much more talent in our country which is not supported at all...

and this brings us back to the problem our beloved iran has... THE ****ING I.r (ISLAMIC republic)

I'm not going to pretend that I'm an expert on sports other than football.
Well, I'm not a football expert either , but I know more about it than rowing for instance.

Indeed, as you said, our events haven't started yet.

Unfortunatley, our events doesn't mean we're a world power in them (like Romania is in Gymnastics, for instance), but the term is used to describe the fact that we actually have a chance, unlike in rowing where our only challenge is to participate.

And, in any case, our events are far, far too few for a country with the population and resources of Iran.

I wish the best for our athlets and I'm not angry with them.
They are doing what they can with the resources provided for them.

What saddens me is yet another proof that Iran is in a catastrohpical state and our sports is just another reflection of that.

agree with this post, LOL at the people that want Iran to develop kids like China, the way China trains its children is brutal and i don't want any child to go through that just for a clumb of gold.

if u had read my text carefully u'd know that i have a similar opinion to urs. So to me it just look like that u are trying to make an discussion out of nowhere. finally in this moment irans most important thing to do is obviously NOT to create a new plan how to better their sport-infrastructure.
