...Look at Turkey f.e. They are pretty much comparable to Iran. Both have approximately the same population (actually Turkey's is bigger), but they are further than us in terms of freedom/democracy etc. Now, how many medals has Turkey gotten in their history other than the usual medals in weightlifting and wrestling?! Well let me tell you: Since 1908, they have had 28 gold medals, and only 1 of them was outside of the wrestling and weightlifting!
Still their overall total of medals is better than ours, but that is another discussion. My point is that some countries are traditionally very good in some sport disciplines, and others at other sports...

Turkey are bidding to host the 2020 Olympics. If they win, I think we can expect to see an exponential increase in their medal haul in forthcoming games.

It will be another 30/40 years at least before Iran could even think of hosting an Olympic tournament, provided that IR is gone soon and Iran hasn't been carved into a dozen pieces by then.

not in 100 years Iran will get an Olympic tournament, they could not even win the host of Asian Cup 2011. We lost it to a country with no culture and bikelas people. We Iranians, over 80 milion people, can not manage to grab te tournament instead of Qatar

They have a very good chance, they are both experienced but nobody can guarantee anything in Taekwondo.

I think winning 2 medals, 1 gold is a fair prediction for them.

Definitely. Even after what happened to Ali, this is possibly Irans best ever Olympic team. In the face of pure clutch our pahlevans will come through!

p.s. Just wanted the video on Rostami...phew! Man he is epic. Imagine having Rezazadeh giving you a prep for your last and WR lift! Phew!!
