Anyway, the finals is going on right now and it's really sad to watch this as Yazdani was the much better fighter compared to these 2 in the finals!
The rule is that the wrestler must go to the mat and be declared the winner, even if he already knew the opponent is not going to come out.
I've learnt it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts

many of the events I watched had the athletes drinking water and clearly not fasting (these events took place before eftar), even if there are people that didn't fast, people say they did to stir up something negative.

Nonetheless this really made me excited for the 2016 olympics. I never watched the olympics a whole lot until this year and I must say it was a joy the past 2 weeks. Congrats to all of our athletes!!

Agha jan. World cup means nothing. Stadium is not even full. Olympics is the epitome of the best vs the best. Nothing beats Olympic Gold. Our boys did fantastic. Full respect. Coming back from a probable broken leg was pure courage. However, some of our athletes have big stage frights. Varner, was the better wrestler in these Olympics. He wasnt doing that great against the Ukrainian either before he got injured if you really want to have an unbiased view about it

i'm gonna have to disagree my man. of course the olympics is the biggest stage of all and much more important than the wrestling world cup. but if you watch the match from last year it wasn't even close, yazdani won 3-1 in the first round and 7-0 in the 2nd round lol, totally man-handled him. I am sure that he would have done the same if he wasn't injured and had gotten to the final. also, what do you mean varner was the better wrestler? yazdani had a tougher road to semifinal and looked very impressive before injury. furthermore, he got injured against musaev of kyrgyzistan, he was already injured when he began his match against the ukranian. i just think it's really unfortunate, because im sure he could have beaten varner

This seemed to be his last Olympic as he's already 28 yrs old. Hope that he didn't injured his knee to badly, so that he could at least win a WC or two. He deserves that!
And Spyder jan, he already was injured in the QF, yet he still managed to win that round coming from 2-1 behind!
I already somehow had given up hope for him to get a medal, but he was a lot tougher than I thought and managed to wrestle one whole round with an injured knee! And I agree with you that the Olympics are more important than WC, but in football WC are also more important than EC, yet every team that participates in EC give their best to win the EC. Yazdani was way better than Verner last year. It maybe doesn't guarantees a win for Yazdani over Verner, but it gives a good indication. Also don't forget that he already beat two of his toughest opponents.

Yazdani would have destroyed Varner or the Ukrainian if he wasn't injured. The injury also happened clearly in his 1/4 match, he grabbed his knee after an exchange with the asian champion...it was noticed by everybody, including the very good BBC commentators who immediately commented on it. In fact after the 1/4 match, you could clearly see Yazdani's coach come and ask him about his knee.

Well whatever the case we can all agree on the following:

                            - Best games ever!
                            - TM players have no ghedrat and should learn a thing or two from these guys

Went to the final session today and the Iranian fans were so disappointed at not having an Iranian wrestler in the medal matches. Shame for Yazdani as I think he had an excellent chance for gold. The Iranian crowd gave the Iran banner (with no wrestler behind it) a good reception!

Congratulations to Iran olympic team (however very disappointed by freestyle wrestling, specially once the other sports were doing good)!!!

I don't give a shit anymore to iran soccer now lol.
