Japan was leading by 5 points and going to win the set , but the gallant boys really fought well and with 4 consecutive points they won the last set 25-23....really fantastic show of power volleyball.

And the crowds were absolutely great.....what an atmosphere.

Exactly my sentiments.

I used to be a volleyball player myself , so I do enjoy watching a good volleyball match , but this one was simply amazing. The third set was a world class act by the boys, really thrilling and just for winning the third set while being 6 points behind at one stage , the boys deserve to be in the World League. The amazing thing is, there are no Salari players in the Volleyball team, I definitely don't think Velasco stands for such a thing , there is such a strong bench , there is so much desire by the boys to win. This is one of the best group of players I have seen in the whole history of Iran. They are all good , some of them world class , they are winners.

This is a far cry from our football team. I truly believe that we need a guy like Julio Velasco in Team Melli. It is not always the technical ability of a coach that makes a winner in a team , its is the character , personality and instilling energy and confidence in his players , disciplining them without insulting or putting them down. This is what Velasco is all about, he turns talents into winners. Our dear old Carlos really lags behind in those attributes.
