No Haddadi and no Arsalan. Apparently Kamrani is missing as well.

      Samad Nikkhah
      Hamed Afagh
      Aren Davoudi
      Oshin Sahakian
      Asghar Kardoust
      Rouzbeh Arghavan
      Farid Aslani
      Mohammad Jamshidi
      Amir Seddighi
      Sajjad Mashayekhi
      Saleh Foroutan
      Behnam Yakhchali
(Thanks to user mohsena2631 at interbasket for providing this info)

BTW, Iran defeated India earlier today 83-71. I didn't watch or follow the game, but judging by the scoreline it doesn't look impressive at all. The spread beforehand was like -40 for Iran.

I recognize the first five names. We must have a young bench this time around.

Iran pummels Gilas in FIBA Asia Cup semis, 77-60

MANILA, Philippines – Smart Gilas Pilipinas kissed their final hopes goodbye in a lackluster 77-60 loss to Iran in their semifinal clash Friday in the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup in Tokyo, Japan.

Iran used a big second half to turn the close game into a rout and moved on to the Finals against the winner of the Japan-Qatar.

After a 30-all halftime break, Iran exploded bridging the last minute of the third canto and the start of the payoff period with a 12-0 run to erect a 64-47 spread.

Gary David’s free throws in the 1:15 mark cut Iran’s lead to just three, 50-47, but the Filipinos were held scoreless in the next six minutes.

While Gilas came out flat in the fourth quarter, Iran fired from all cylinders. Big man Asghar Khardoustpoustinsaraei connived with Sahmad Nikkah Bahrami and Mohmmad Jamshidi Jafarabadi in that telling 12-0 run.

Gilas failed to find a spark to rally back into the game as the Nationals fell to as many as 20 points.

Khardoustpoustinsaraei outplayed naturalized center Marcus Douthit, who sat out the final 8:06 of the game. The Iranian big man finished with 13 points on four of seven shooting and grabbed seven boards and made Douthit’s life miserable inside the paint.

After a mammoth 19-point and 18-rebound effort yesterday against Chinese Taipei, Douthit could only muster 11 points and seven boards while battling Khardoustpoustinsaraei and foul trouble.

RI/JPN - Mashallah Aren! Davoudi’s trey takes Team Melli to FA Cup title!

Game Photos. Game Details and Stats

TOKYO, Japan (4th FIBA Asia Cup): Aren Davoudi sank a sizzling trey to bring former twice FIBA Asia champions Iran back into the lead on the scoreboard and the WABA giants held the fantastic hayabusa of Japan off for the following 18-and-half seconds to eke out a cliff-hanger 53-51 win in the final of the 4th FIBA Asia Cup on Saturday.

Samad Nikhhah Bahrami was the leader of the Iranian campaign in the game – as it has been in right through the competition – but his Most Valuable Player moment came when he tapped the ball off Takatoshi Furukawa and then followed it up with a defensive rebound to seal his team’s win.

Japan did have their moments, especially during the ravishing rally they presented in coming back from a 7-point first half deficit.

***uke Kanamaru was his usual sprightly self and JR Sakuragi did rather well to keep pace with his much younger opposite number Asghar Kardoust, but when push came to shove it was Aren Davoudi – who had been rested twice earlier for injuries – once on his eye and the other on his leg – provided the star turn!

So what was the actually the difference between the victors and the vanquished at the Ota City Gymnasium?

Was it Japan’s lack of depth in their bench? Was it the hosts’ inadequacy to throw open the game when they had the opportunity? Was it their coach’s poor call for a play for a downtowner instead of a three-point play in the lane?

Well to the discerning, none of these.

Well it all boiled down to one magical moment from a player who has been lurking in the shadows for long. Is it his time in the sun now? For sure, after Saturday the spotlight will burn a little brighter on Aren Davoudi!
